hey guys i have lots of water in my rear passenger footwell and also some in the front two footwells. any ideas where i can look to see where its coming in so i can fix the problem? there is a plastic (vent/tube/pipe) under the seats cud it be coming in through that? would be grateful for any help as need to fix soon on a tight budget. thanks guys.

Im guessing its the leaky door issue, seems to be a really common fault. Theres a great guide on here somewhere about how to repair it, tried it on mine, unfortunately someone had already bodged it so its not great, but still 10x better!

Ah yes door seals again, yes a very common problem, when you see the seals you will realise why! Pretty easy fix but its quite hard to detect. The water leaks in round the seal for the metal plate that holds all the door gubbins (handles, windows etc) and is behind the door card. When mine were gone the floors were soaking but the sills and that were always dry, I thought this was a bit strange and thought it couldnt be the door seals, but it was :).

Anyway theres loads of good guides on here on replacing them. Its pretty easy you just whip off the door cards, take out all the bolts holding the metal plate to the door apart from the top one which you just slacken (so you dont have to take the plate off, just slacken it enough so you can stuff the new seal in). You could get new OEM seals but I imagine they will be made of the same s**t as the original ones, I used double sided sticky rubber you get for sticking glass into windows avaliable pretty cheap at any hardware shop.

The place it leaks in most is round the speakers on the front doors, this is where mine were worst the seal had rotted away to nothing, I slapped on a load of silicon round them too just to make sure. My back doors were ok but I did them anyway, after you do the first one it takes about half an hour a door. Just watch those damned plastic clips on the door cards.

p.s. get the inside mopped up quick, mine literally took weeks to dry out properly and that was with sucking the water out and leaving the doors open whenever possible!

I had the same issue last week when we had the stupidly heavy rain up here.
Was advised that it might be door seals but the water didnt seem to be coming from there, then i noticed someone mention water getting in thought the pollen filter.

Pulled filter out and it was soaking on 1 side. Let it dry out and seated it back in properly, put everything back together nice and tight and its been fine since.

Yeah should have mentioned that, when its the pollen filter it only tends to be the passengers side that gets it.

had all the carpets, and seats out of mine on monday nite, filled the vax 3 times over with water, and it stinks, re sealed all the doors and the hole in bulk head where i pulled the hose for my guage through, now waiting for the rain to see how well i have done

If it is your door seals then you can find out quite easily. Wait until it has rained heavily and get in the car.

Lean across the car and touch the carpet just under the doors (where the plastic stops) and you should be able to see/feel the wet areas.

I noticed this on my front passenger door yesterday. I am now waiting for a good day to take the door apart to replace the switch in the lock too.

You will need some butyl tape as shown above. I plan to do that and then seal with a bead of sealant to make sure it never comes back.

I bought 9.6 meters which I have not used all of but I am not doing the entire door I am only sealing the sides and the bottom (probably not advisable).

2 meters per door should be more than enough though.

Jesus thats a lot, mine took a fair bit of sucking but thats mental, I never took the seats out though I just pulled up the carpet in the bits I could. Yeah it smells horrible, after its dry give the carpets a shampoo then when they are dry again get some washing powder and sprinkle a little on the carpet and suck it up dry. I used to have an old tube of washing powder stuff that was specifically for throwing on carpets and sucking up dry, dunno if you get such a thing now.

Do the golfs / a3 have the same issues? Just curious...leaks can break your heart

As far as I gather, most VAG cars suffer this issue! It seems pot luck whether your car suffers or doesn't suffer...not all Leons suffer, not all years suffer, etc etc etc

My Mondeo suffered...though it was the plastic membrane which failed on that
