I've NVER seen an alloy wheel break like this! It HAS to be a casting fault IMO. I wouldn't let SEAT away with anything, even if the insurance company wants to write the car off. If SEAT deny there's any manufacturing defect, I'd see about getting an independent opinion from an alloy wheel specialist or similar expert opinion. A metallurgist possibly? Don't let that broken wheel out of your sight! Yes SEAT will have to have a look at the rim, but get a written assurance from them that they will give the rim back to you if you for independent analysis if you dispute SEAT’s findings. If the accident was no fault of you or the road condition, and is attributable to a wheel rim failure then it should be SEAT that compensates you for all losses you accrue because of the wheel failure.

I will not let them get away with it as I have no car!!
I know a metalurgist, one of my engineering teachers is one, and also all the other engineers agreed it should not happen!!

That's the problem - body shops have got greedy with insurance work - they replace so much stuff to make more proffit that the car becomes a write off and they get nothing.

Working in metalurgy myself (Titanium specifically), for the alloy to split like that looks like a fracture in the casing, a minor defect to which the impact has caused it to 'stress fracture'. Causing it to basically, rip around the rim.

In no way should that happen.

I don't think they will fix it. The car is worth what? 7k ? The repair bill from the garage quoted £6800!
If anything I would imagine they will swap the car

I.think parts alone was about 4000-4500 then.paint and labour and stuff to take it to 6800

Damage wise all obv panels, drive shaft, power steering expensive parts lol

so hopefully it os all getting sorted soon

I understand the spokes snapping in a sideways impact. But an impact from the front, should only mean a chunk out of it, or the alloy deforms. Not split in half. I don't think the post actually came in contact with the wheel, I think the front hit the post and it got shoved over before the wheel hit it.

this is the post I hit. It was at more of an angle but I moved it so I could open my door. .
Found 1 scuff on the floor its a lighter grey than the tarmac and it leads towards the post

where's the curb you say you mounted and hit the post cannot see it in pic

Its literally just below the pic is where it.ends. I.hit the downwards part of the curb where it goes from curb to floor. So not really a curb if you know what I mean
