Time for the Leon to be replaced...

The girl is going on 80k miles so I can't help but feel I want a younger model.
She still runs like an absolute dream, and now with the new tyres it's like a new car.

Got my eyes open and feelers out for any pretty white FRs on the market.
I'm not stuck on white, but if a nice candy white BTCC FR comes on the market...I'm on that like stink on sh*t.

Been deciding for ages now whether to go Cupra...but I don't think I could part with the DSG. It's too good.

Also...can't decide on FL or pre-FL. Personally I think the pre-FL looks better in front, but the back of the FL looks better.
FL comes with nicer suspension setup, better kit, chain driven, etc etc.

Any thoughts?

better the devil you know than the one you dont. i wouldnt sell my leon cupra for another leon cupra as i know how mine runs. your next one younger might be a dog.

Ok let me rethink and rephrase:
I love the Leon, but am missing some of the more modern features provided by the FL.
So, that's decision 1 made, going for FL. Otherwise it would be a case of "if it ain't broke, don't swap it". So going for FL would provide the benefits, and a newer car.

Makes sense to go for FL as you feel like you're upgrading more than just going for a newer car.

How about an oil burner..?

We traded our 2007 FR TFSI DSG for a CR170 FR DSG and don't miss the loss of BHP thanks to the extra torque.
We do less than 10k mileage but just enjoying less trips to the garage, averaging 40-45mpg instead of the 27-28 we used to get (although FL TSi will be better..).

I'd consider another Leon when it's time to change, but I wouldn't get another TFSi/DSG/FR personally. I've already got one of those.

Would consider a cupra, or a diesel FR if I found I needed to drive long distances a lot.

But I've actually got my heart set on a Toyota GT86 as my next car right now.

I don't think I do the miles to be honest. I bought the leon with 65k miles less than a year ago. Now I'm at 77k. So not exactly record-breaking mileage.

However, I am more and more tempted by the oil burner torque. But I think I've always preferred the way petrol drives.

BUT...diesels seem to be going for nice prices.

But I've actually got my heart set on a Toyota GT86 as my next car right now.

I came very close to changing my FR I've had since new for a new LCR, but binned the idea as regardless of how you sell it to yourself it's just not enough of a change to justify. My petrol DSG equipped FR was fantastic value for money new and owes me nothing, quick as you like @ 260hp (AMD RR *cough*) and has never let me down.

I don't think I'll ever sell it now, it'll just become my 2nd car at some point

Also, we've got the other car which is loaded with gadgets and goodies and all newest things (12 plate), and the Leon just seems a bit spartan with that black/red radio and 3.5mm headphone connector for "iPhone integration".

Maybe it's a better idea to get a credit card and get the ol' girl fixed up good and proper.

That sums it up for me! All you want is a more modern car, which you could do to your current one. However, you will probably lose all the money you put into it!

If i was in your situation i'd change to a FL leon, and possibly a diesel. Get all the toys and you'll be happy

I think Id have to drop about 2.5k on the Leon to get the Leon sorted with some decent kit, Fully serviced, cambelt changed, rear wheels, cam follower, proper paint fix-up etc etc.
Or...trade it in and get a FL for the extra 2.5 to 3k on finance.

I don't know if I can go diesel. I'd really have to try it for a day or so to see if I could tolerate the tractor life

That would work if the new car was the same price and therefore won't depreciate faster than the old one. Most of the money has been lost of the current car, so changing car will cost you more in the long run.

Cars are never things that will make financial sense, so just go with what you're happy with as no one can say it's wrong except for you.

Yeah should have mentioned that! I came to the conclusion that to 'add' all the gadgets to his current car would probably cost more than trading it in and getting a new one including depreciation maybe.

Plus the facelift is nicer

- eibach prolines (don't want to get a rock-hard daily driver, and want traction and stability to work as per factory spec)
- neuspeed p-flow (for the fun factor...although it'd probably be removed soon after)
- remap stg1
- Refurb wheels
- handful of paint touch-ups, some more major than others and overall paint fixing job
- aircon regas
- laser alignment

That's....a lot of cash.
