Rev Limiter?

Hey there,

One thing that really annoys me about the car is that you can't rev while standing still. Meaning if you try, it'll just lock up at a certain RPM, which is 3 or 4, don't remember, and therefore you cannot hear the full roar of the engine.

Is there a way around that? I'm not stupid and I know that revving the engine while the car is standing still is not the best thing to do, but I'd like to hear the roar of the engine for once in my life, lol.

And that's also because I've been thinking about installing a K&N air filter and perhaps air intake, which supposedly make the car sound a little better, but I wouldn't be able to tell if I cannot rev it.

What to do? Thank you.

You'll never hear it properly, because it sounds very different under 1 bar boost to what it does without boost (which car, btw?)

I don't understand what bar boost means. I have a 2012 SEAT Leon 1.6 MPi. I know it's a weak engine without a powerful sound, but I still would like to hear it when I rev.

Get your induction kit and drive with the windows up and the radio off, that's the best time you'll hear it. It will never sound as powerful when stood still because your car isn't getting enough flow of air to suck in

And Sinbad is referring to a turbo car which yours isn't

It is possible to do but I'm not posting how, simply because it's such a ridiculous request.

^^^^Same here. Some people work nights you know. They don't want a 1.6 Wasp in a biscuit tin outside their window doing 6.5k revs waking them up.

At least if you rev it whilst you're in gear you will be past their house in a few seconds. Oh wait, it's a 1.6 so make that 30 seconds.

Keep your eyes peeled, someone will let it slip how to do it.

Yeah alright, sory. It sort of came across wrong. Sometimes when you type stuff it works differently to if you were to say it face to face.

However, people reving engines and tooting horns rather than ringing doorbells when they collect their mates gives me the hump.

It's alright and I truly apologize for the misunderstanding. As for the people you're talking about, heck, they annoy the heck out of me as well, to be honest with you. I was only wondering why it is locked and wanted to see if there's a way around it just for the sake of experimentation and in an empty road or such to avoid annoying anyone.

WOW for real, man? a 1.6 MPI??? Geee, how does it actually work for a car as heavy as the Leon? I simply can't imagine it...

Only very slightly. 1.4 has 100ps and 1.6 has 105ps.

Lol.. this thread is honestly depressing me about my car's crappy performance. I could have gotten better for cheaper, namely the Fiat Bravo (1.4 turbo). How stupid of me.

I only have 1.2 turbo which is 105 too

It's still faster, has more torque, and can be remapped and modified to perform better. Don't worry about it.

I'm sorry mate, didn't mean to make you feel like that. It surprises me because the smallest engine they offered a León with around here is the 1.4 TSI, so I'm quite serious when I say I can't imagine how that car would perform with an engine like yours. And I'm still wondering...
