Should be ok, will be a tad thicker when cold due to lower "W" grade but the important bit is the 30. If it meets VAG specs it will be fine. I used Castrol Edge Professional in my LCR and pretty sure it's 0w-30 and not had any issues with it.
Ok thank you. I was thinking the 0W meant it would be thinner when cold but same thickness when warmed up so would be actually be better for the engine
0W DOES mean thinner matey. Lower the number the thinner the oil. I've been using it on my 1.8t 180bhp for a year and it's fine. As you say my reasoning is that it flows better and circulates quicker on cold start up.
Thats good then thats what i was hoping for! Do any of you know if it is exactly the same as 5W 30 once it is up to temperature or is it still a bit thinner? Thanks
If you do normal everyday driving then it should be fine but if you do track days or long periods where the engine gets very hot then i would go for 5w/50 as the 30 will get very thin when hot which could lead to wear. (This is the advice i have been given anyway)
Ok thanks. i never do track driving so thats not a problem. Its mostly short journeys. I did consider 0w 30 before but was more expensive so never bothered looking into it properly. It was on offer and around same price as the 5w 30 which they didnt have any of when i looked.
