boc or cupra

hello. i currently have a leon cupra but i need to go to a DSG since i have just had ACL surgery and am going to struggle pushing an uprated clutch down.

been thinking of moving to a mk5 Ibiza.

i know there are a bunch of horror stories with the 1.4tsi how bad are they??? i need something reliable??

also the book says 55mpg on a long trip is that realistic or optimistic???

Motorway I get about 44 to 46mpg. In town around 28 to 34 depends on who is driving me or the gf

I have never had any problems and mines 60 plate 13000 miles and don't drink oil

Well the word reliable and mk5 Ibiza Cupra don't often go In the same sentence.

There a stunning car but they have a lot of common problums.
Some people have had nothing but problums and some people have had an enjoyable happy experience but from what I have seen on hear and on vw and the skoda forums there is a lot more that have had problums than what havnt.

I wanted one was very tempted but I couldn't bring my slef the risk.

If u get a very long warranty with it then should be ok but I defo wouldn't go near one unless had a good long warranty on it.

really that bad. thats a shame as i just seen a 2011 vrs fabia that i was going to look at but if the horror stories are true then i guess its a no go.

It's made out to be a lot worse than it actually is. Forum posts are 90% problems 10% praise so because you only get people asking or complaining about something going wrong it seems like it's a lot of cars that are affected. There are hundreds/thousands of people with Cupra's and Boc's with no problems whatsoever and possibly never will.

I've not had my Boc for long but the only issue I have is it drinks oil a bit quicker than most cars but everything else seems absolutely sound with it.

to be hoenst with u seat have stopped making the 1.4tsi engine now for the bocs as they keep having problems with it..and if you cant decide i would properly di insurance quotes to see what comes out cheaper for u.i have been reading around as soon as people were mapping there bocs they started having misfiring problems

Good choice with the octavia.. I traded my boc in on one with dsg also but the skoda wont see 55 mpg on a run either imo...

ive got the mk5 1.6tdi ibiza and cause i do about 90% of motorway drivinig i get about 57-59mpg so i end up putting about 13 pound a week into my car which last me a week and 12 to work

Dont know what to make of the above statement.
True there are no more Bocs being made. SEAT dont make the 1.4 tsi engine, vw do. And the engine is still being fitted to the 2013 cupra...

TBH mine only has 700 miles on it so will loosen up i guess.. Think to get 55mpg on it you'd need to be pretty light foooted and that kinda defeats the point of a vRS ? Get a Octavia greenline or something if your looking at new, esp if the vat off offer covers that ?

like wegi said.. you only really get to hear about the bad when it comes to these engines..
Replaced my Leon with a Boc for very similar reasons to you ( couldnt press the clutch or walk very well due to medical reasons) Two years later its still going strong and i love it.
Also the manufacture MPG figures never really reflect real life driving for a lot of people.
I'm Getting between 38mpg - 45mpg.. but nearly all my driving is city so not sure about freeway driving.
sly200sx is right, if your after mpg its going to be eco versions and a very light foot !

I'm a non motorway commuter and most days I'm getting 40mpg on my 18 mile each way drive, occasional days I might get 43mpg if there's traffic sitting at 50mph.


On the motorways I generally get around 47-ish mpg doing 70.

I was refering to the 1.4 tfsi in the cupra or boc, the reason i "lolled" was because my partner has one and the best we could get from it on a motorway over 60 miles was around 39mpg, granted we wasn't doing 50mph but we weren't caining it either, in my oppinion 55 is extremely unrealistic...

On my ten plate cupra I recently drove 120 miles up the m6 to Carlisle and got 51mpg with four people in the car and a load of luggage this was staying between 58-65mph

I've had 54mpg from north Wales back to Manchester taking it easy, but usually I get mid 40's on the motorway doing 70-80,

Around town I get mid 30's.
