Eek!!!
I've only just topped up the oil a few weeks ago.

Flashed on MFD for about 15 seconds, no trace of it now. Que pasa?

Luckily just as I was parking my car, but now I have to worry about the ride home.

Admittedly I was giving the car what for but it was well warmed :)

I would think not the blocked pipe issue. And I really hope it's not a pump issue. Although if it's the HPFP...good excuse to go Autotech :D haha.
..but really it's not funny cus I can't afford it right now :(

I'm hoping it's just the car having a bit of a fit because I was giving it the beans in low gears from low speeds.
Because the message is gone now (or it was anyway when I got out of the car), it was a temporary hiccup.

I suppose if I punch the throttle, ECU says "all hands on deck HPFP!!!!" and one of the deckhands is a bit slow getting out of bed...pressure won't be high enough and sensors throw a hissy fit.

That's my guess at the moment, that I did it too often, too hard and in too quick succession for the lines to adjust to what the ECU was telling it to do.

...or I've got a big fat leak and my pump is knacked.

Would you mind me asking if you ever found out what the issue was? I had the same light pop up this evening....

Hiya Kaz
Nah never did find out.
I was driving...well..kind of like a ding dong end. Not around other people, but I was taking everything that poor TFSI lump and gearbox had to offer acceleration-wise. Not top speed.

Before I wrote about the fuel pump...but that doesn't even make any sense. I was off my rocker.

My second guess is either low oil level (wasn't the case...have you checked?) or the sensor having a freak-out.
As I've never seen it before or since, I'm guessing it was that.

So. Check your oil, and check the sensor. If both are fine...maybe sludge getting in the way? But I get the idea your head isn't likely to be full of sludge from bad maintenance eh?

Sorry cant be more help

Oh and the ol' oil pick-up issue...
Worth a check if the light turns off if you're on a downwards slope.

Thanks for your response :) yep checked my oil and that's fine (check it every week anyway) so it's not that. May see if its the sensor. Hoping (like you say) it was just having a random moment!

Guess a bit of a misunderstanding here. Schnazzle your car is a diesel and the members responding have petrol engines. Oil pressure won't flash until. oil levell is seriously low (or a combination of minimum levell and parking on a hill). Normally the light indicates a serious problem (or a faulty sensor), next time it flashes I wouldn't drive the car before having everything checked first.

I posted that when I had my TFSI Rob ;)
Only had the diesel about 2 months hehe

In that case, I know of two tfsi's that had the same problem, both had oil pressure issues at startup (light flickers at startup) whichs isn't good since a cold motor needs lubrication. A good flush and thinner better quality oil solved the problem in both cases.

Different issue I believe. Although indeed known.

Have you started your car since Kaza?

It happened to me when the engine was very warm. Burning hot actually :) And I was running Castrol Edge oil....which is why I was so pissed that I had to top off the oil so often :( Cost me a fortune. Those TFSIs are so stupid with oil...

If Kaz wasn't ragging the crap out of it when the light came on, it seems more like a blockage or sensor fail than an intermittent issue like mine.

But yeah after that brief little notice I never saw the light again. Never had any startup issues at all. In fact, the car was a dream to run, despite taking so much abuse from me. Other than the N80 valve going and needing replacement. 20 GBP and 20 minutes later that was solved by myself.

Hey!

My dad was driving the car approx 40mph when the warning came on. it was on for roughly 10 seconds then disappeared again.

I haven't started it since, I have a friend vag-comming the car tomorrow anyway so will just wait and see if that brings anything up. I'd rather not drive it again until I see what's going on! The car has felt very 'tight' to drive (in a way) the last two days!

Oil pick up pipes are a problem on any car if the oils hasn't been changed often enough of if there have been a lot of short journeys where the engine doesn't get up to temperature

I though you were selling your car ?

Yeah I've been doing a lot of smaller journeys recently but the oil was changed 3 weeks ago.
I used to drive on the motorway everyday for a year and a bit and never had issues.

I am indeed. Sorting out the last few bits and giving it a service then she's going. Want a diesel :)

My red oil light only came on once for a few seconds, on the 2nd lap of a particularly tight roundabout :-D Figured it was just the sideways forces moving the oil away from the sensor, never seen it since.

Mine was on a straight bit of road so I can't blame a roundabout for it lol

I have a friend coming over to vag-com it in a bit. Haven't started it since Thursday, didn't want to chance it but I'll see what happens.

Nah nothing in relation to the oil. Had a few low voltage faults though :-/
