Anyone know if the brown wire controls the folding mirror? Only it looks damaged to me

Brown is typically earth, and that is almost certainly the earth wire from the door control unit to the earth point down at the bottom of the A-pillar.

The electric mirror wires will all be within the door, there's no reason for them to come out through that cableway.

The red/brown twisted pair is a databus - not Can-Bus, it's too early for that (and the wrong colours) - connecting the drivers control unit to the control units in the other doors.

The drivers side mirror will have eight wires coming out of it to an eight-way connector on the door control unit, if it has electric fold. Only five wires if it's manual, and three if it's not heated.

Wow - you are a book of knowledge - thank you!

Could a faulty fuse be responsible for one of them not working?

Also whilst we are in the subject of fuses could this be why my rear wiper isn't working ?!

Lee's list of fuses in this thread should help. Shows fuse 27 for the rear wiper.

There is one fuse for mirror heating, but no separate fuse for the mirror fold.

The door control unit is attached to the electric window motor. Have you had any work done on the drivers side electric window, or had a replacement winding motor?

Damaged earth wiring isn't a good idea - I'd get that repaired if you can.

Thanks for the advice - I haven't had any work done to the mirror but that's not to say the previous owner didn't
