Get them pics up bro! What did you make the plates out of?

Added some pictures to my album take a look. Haven't figured out how to put a link to pictures yet. Going to see if I can get a gas strut and fittings chromed as mine looks a little weathered :(

Made my plates today and fitted the gas strut, my phone went dead just before I fitted it so no final pictures :( ( Will get some tomorrow) I used a 300N strut and I will probably get a weaker one from work tomorrow ~200N because it is a tad strong atm :)

Plate with a thin sqaure M8 nut welded on it ( For clearance )

I'll be interested too..the standard one is complete waste of time...

I had it open before, went back to grab a socket and the wind blew it down! damage wasn't too bad (had some cloth over the body at the time to prevent any damages!)...sigh (mini rant over!)

Whoops i forgot about this. I will make the plates no problem for people for a couple quid plus postage, im struggling to find the right strength strut though , does anyone know the strength of the a3 strut ? Then i can see the price of them if people want them

There are a few different strengths on the Audi a3, I think the one I've used has an eject force of 290nm.
Some a3's have upto 420nm
Hope this helps!

I only have one gas strut fitted to mine which works well so I think there is no need to have 2 fitted, also if 2 are fitted using the a3 struts I would say they'd be too strong so weaker ones would be required.

Yeah 2 would be too strong, the ~300N one I tried nearly flipped the bonnet over the roof
I can't imagine 10N will make that much difference, is the A3 one not too strong? do you have the length of that strut too?

I find the a3 gas strut to be just right to be honest. It's off a 2001 3 door I believe. The extended length is 520mm. When the bonnet release catch is pulled it pops up to the secondary catch. The strut does not take over until you lift the bonnet yourself around 12 inches.

Hey Benjic2

Are you still able to do the plates ?

Thanks

Sure, you can have my plates if you want because I sold my car, not bothered about any money for them :) I will see if I can find them in the garage tomorrow if you want? I dont have the gas strut anymore though, another member bought that
