Ok, this morning going southbound down the M40 at an undisclosed speed, in front are a merc followed by a BMW. All of a sudden they both nearly stop :scary:

dont know if they touched or if the merc was just brake testing the BMW as he was right up his arse.......all i know is if i hadn't of fitted those Brembos, I would of gone right through the pair of them. Its the first time since fitted them ive had to panic brake. I really cant believe there stopping power, nearly gave me whiplash lol so the brembos with the ds2500 pads and the ebc discs saved my car today, maybe even my life, and i originaly wanted them on cause i thought they look better

It's moments like this that makes the brakes wipe there nose, they just paid for themselves IMO.

I don't drive my car fast or use the brakes that much (i drive looking ahead) but I recently upgraded my pads hoses and fluid just for moments like this.

Is not just brakes ... Most of stopping power depends on good rubber...

i already had that, Toyo's up front and Vreds at the rear. My standard brakes was the 288mm setup and they must have been the cheapest pads and discs money can buy cause they were piss poor, stamp your feet down and it was like trying to stop a bus, the brake travel was a joke. A rich tea biscuit would of made a better brake disc.

when i had that moment earlier, it just stopped when i asked it to, no pulling to one side, no smoke or lock ups etc

Sounds like you may have been travelling a little too close yourself though, to be fair I think most people do without even realising and it's not until we are asked to react to a situation in front that we realise the distance between us and the car in front isn't big as it needed to be.

Had a woman run in to me a while back (at fairly low speed) while I was driving my wife's car, basically she wasn't paying enough attention to the conditions and the road ahead so when I had to brake fairly sharply due to somebody in front just pulling out into traffic, by the time she had realised what had happened and hit the brakes she had no choice but to run into the back of me, I could see it happening but had nowhere to go.

I always try and give plenty of space to the car in front to allow for people behind me traveling too close to be able to react in an emergency stop scenario, the fact it would be their fault does little to ease the pain of seeing a car wedged into the back of yours lol

you saying that, i did give quite a big gap just out of habbit from running poor brakes for so long, its just i wasnt expecting them to brake in the manor they did when they had a clear run in front of them

I know what you mean, when you can see clear road ahead and then someone brakes for seemingly no reason it can catch you unawares.

Just out of interest, are those trackday pads?

If they are then I didn't think them kind of pads would be working at there best if needed quickly on a motorway, I mean you would never get any heat in there as they are being constantly cooled

Glad you survived though, good eye opener

More fast road than track. I think DS3000 are the track version. Not sure what there like cold but the DS2500 are ok and very good under normal temps.
