Ive been itching to get my car remapped cus I thort the 130 bhp was abit lumpy, got it remapped today and I can say is go for it, it's transformed my car and pulls hard in all gears. All in all it cost me £60!!! I didn't have 250 to throw at ppl for the map so I done it myself.
I'm shocking on computers and it went well.

I've heard nothing but good news about Black Smoke re-maps. Glad it went well!

The re-maps themselves are good, it's just trusting the 'customer' installing it correctly without bricking the ECU!

Did you use a genuine cable or just some old knock off one from Ebay or something?

sounds interesting i was never impresssed with the revo remap on my pd150 leon.

Then there was probably something wrong with the car.

For £60 there's going to be nothing genuine about it.

These cheap maps are cheap for a reason. often very poor files with a lot of boost which gives the end user the impression the car is much faster when they mostly just cause a huge boost spike.

I have to disagree.

The reason these maps are cheap are because the seller doesn't have a huge workshop, expensive dyno machines or loads of staff. He is independent, working possibly on the side or at home so can afford to keep the prices low.

If you're really that concerned about the quality of the remap, send me the file and I'll compare it to my Revo map on my Ibiza using WinOLS.

That's simply not true.

People buy master format files and sell them on cheaply because that seems to be what people want these days, low price - not quality. it takes little skill to auto read a set of ecu maps then add 20/40% to everything then deem it a mapped file. I'd be very surprised if black smoke have even written the files never mind tested them. Also be interesting to see a RR graph of one, which black smoke can't provide as he doesn't have one, hence no real way of testing the power and torque curve and their workshop (like so many other companies of this type) is probably a bedroom.

People don't know what they're flashing to their ecu.

winols demo or full won't open or extract encrypted Revo files.

Without starting a flaming topic on how good or bad Blacksmoke are I will agree that people buy cheaply and not necessarily for quality. Nothing will truly beat a good old dyno tuned setup, with live remapping but that does cost £££.

However, if Revo encrypted their files, how come I can read mine perfectly well and modify it with the correct checksum checks?

Just out if interest then, do you know which files will/should be encrypted then?

I appear to have full access, Drivers Wish, MAP Sensors, Smoke Limiter and EGR etc...

Anything on k-line will be available as will early can-bus stuff.

Later can-bus files and UDS will be encrypted and cause issues if you try to read/manipulate them, usually a full re-write get rid of the software.

I agree with Badger.

Also interested in a dyno print out. Out of interest, which file did the OP go for from Black Smoke, and is your car standard? Would be interesting to what values are on the various maps from the ECU, and it'd also indicate whether MJ is right.

Just about got my head around working VagSuite, so when my cable arrives I'll see if I can work a bit of magic on my map settings and see where that gets me, along with dyno proof.

Absolutely no mention of figures or plots on their website...how do you know what your actually installing?
I'm not saying its a poor map but the lack of info on their site would concern me

i checked over the car before it was mapped and addressed a boost leak the mapper checked over the car too and his only concern was the maf which he changed otherwise the car was healthy regularly serviced and only on 60,000 miles.
the car is still driven by the father in law and has no issues.
i just wasnt impressed with the map and for that reason i think ive been put off revo on a tdi.

There was a thread on this wasnt there?

There is definately a place for professional remaps and rolling roads but to 95% of all people want a power upgrade without spending £300.

Taken from their website, sums them up really.

I admire what blacksmoke have done from a marketing perspective, that is that they've bought a few selet tuning files and are happy to instruct you on how to use 2 interfaces to programme these files that they'll supply, they're making pure profit and even offering postal remaps for £100. You can buy a bench flash lead for £40 and providing you have the equipment and customer base its a license to print money.

I also find it funny how anyone whos going to be buying a mega cheap tuning file is expected to have a genuine f.g tech galletto.

not one i started but i have mentioned before that i wasnt amazed by the remap and that it seemed a underwhelming.

Shame that really as the 150 is normally a great platform for upgraded software.
