brake problems - Ibiza FR tdi

Just picked up a 2007 FR tdi for the wife, which I knew needed the front brake discs replacing.

I've replaced these with pads as well, and the braking is still poor.

Press down on the brake pedal and it initially slows the car down, but then it takes ages to stop it completely - even if I put as much pressure as I can on the pedal!

I know they shouldn't be like this as I currently own a Fabia VRS and the missus had a 2003 Ibiza PD130 (which had the best brakes ever!) So have gone from amazing braking to non-existant braking!

I was thinking it's just a fluid change required, though it had one in June last year according to the service manual.

Anything else it could be?

Check the condition of the plastic servo pipe that goes between the brake servo and tandem fuel pump on the n/s of the engine, for cracks / splits.

Bedded in, and the brake servo pipe has no cracks or splits.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to re-bleed them

No, as it specifically says not to on the paperwork with the discs!

They ara Pagid discs which I have used on said Fabia and previous Ibiza, both front and rear with no problems on either of those cars.

Is the brake pedal just a bit stiff as in a lack of servo assistance?

What condition are the hoses in? I've heard it said braided lines make a great difference on these. A job I need to do on mine as my originals are feeling rather spungey. Also, what pads are on? Mine came with Mintex on and they were dangerously poor, changed them to red stuff and made a huge difference.

To check if it is the servo (sort of sound like it).

Turn engine off
Pump brake pedal maybe 10 times .. it will get very stiff and stop getting any stiffer (this will exhaust the servo of vacuum)
Hold the pedal down and make sure it does not sink and is stiff (leaks or air)
Now while pedal is down with moderate force .. start the engine.
Pedal should be felt to drop and become soft as the vacuum fills the servo.. if it does not then something wrong with the Servo/Booster.

bleed your brakes, chack your brake booster pipe, black pipe going from back of bulk head out the sevo to tandem pump.
sounds like one of these issues

My 06 plate ibiza fr tdi had this was a pin size hole in the vacuum pipe.

If the fluid was changed, it's possible they did a crap job of bleeding it, and the previous owner just never noticed!
