Bad brakes - spongy pedal - any advice?

Some good I do there captain. Going to be changing rear brakes shortly. Just incase I need to bleed them again. When you say rear left etc. is that asif you standing at the front of the car. If you can u der stand what I mean lol. Cheers

Yeah as if your standing at the back of the car facing forwards basically you bleed the furthest first, longest lines if you will, longest pipe from the master cylinder, I always bleed everything twice to be sure I have every last bit if air out usually once then drive then again after, using a pressure bleeder is the only safe way on these cars, I would definately not use the pedal method it's not effective and can cause damage to the MC, gunson eazi bleed is only £15 on eBay makes the job a piece of cake..

Terrific bit of kit found mine in my dads garage and not looked back since, the motive ones are pretty good with a gauge on, make sure you only run 15psi through the master cylinder it's rare but you can blow the reservoir off the master cylinder using too higher pressure...

Yeah i used low pressure!

Cudnt be bothered getting the spare out so let off some pressure off drivers front then used that! Garage is only 1/2mile away so topped it back up! Only had 11psi in it when i got there :O oooops

I wouldn't worry I only know of one case on vw vortex where I guy split his reservoir running too much pressure but oblivious once i used 30psi and all was fine, bled like a mother trucker but later found out that I should have used 15psi, live n learn no damage done tho lol

Well mine turned out to be air in the master cylinder. Took 5 cycles of pressure bleeding on vagcom to work the bugger out mind!

That was probably the case all along, the only problem was who ever was messing about with your car didn't know that:rolleyes:

In reality and unless you were present when it was apparently done - the MC was probably never touched until you mentioned it, hence the sudden result!

In the 10 years of working on vw group cars I have never had to use VCDS to rectify a brake system issue.
