Hi guys I am a owner of a mk4 1.4tdi ibiza spent plenty of time messing arround with that doing mods wheels bodykits audio etc etc...

I think its time to upgrade to the mk5 but I want something looking sporty brcause ive spent enough time making the mk4 sporty and I dont want to start all over... I like the look of the fr, the Iinterior is nice aswell.. I dnt do much motorway driving. So just wondering wether to get the 2.0tdi fr or the 1.6tdi what 1 would be more reliable in the long run.

And is there any other models anybody could recomend ?

Can't speak for the 2.0 as I have never had one. But I had a 1.6Tdi for three years and did 43,000 miles without a single issue, so I would consider it reliable.
Just a word of caution though, some people have had issues with the newer diesel engines due to their use not suiting the DPF filter. If you don't do regular long(ish) journeys, the 1.2 petrol FR may be a better choice for you.

I test drove the 1.6TDi and the 2.0TDi when I was looking for an Ibiza.

The 1.6 whilst nice enough to drive did not provide the stump pulling torque that I was looking for to replace my old 1.9TDi 130 ibiza.

The 2.0TDi FR is a lazy car to drive when needed but it also picks its heals up when needed too.

I tend to do very short trips ( less than 5 miles ) in the week with some longer trips ( 80+ miles ) at weekends.
( My office moved a year after buying the car so the usage is wrong for the TDi motor )

Having said that - I have NEVER had the DPF light on and except for the elevated idle speed can hardly tell when the car is doing a regen ( oh yes - and the horrid smell like burned rubber - haha )

I would recommend the 2.0TDi if insurance is not a factor.

Biker - I do alot of running arround city driving but do do like the 25mile journey on weekends and that but I dont fancy petrol nomore diesels all the way.. can you get the fr in 1.6tdi ?

Deano - see I dont really do alot of motorway only like once a month about 80mile journey to visit family but other than that normall quick little journey but not really arround town all a roads so im not plopping arround at 30mph all the time. And I can get it going in some places arround here.

I owned a mk4 2.0tdi leon fr and only got rid because of the dpf needing a new sensor. .daft really.
Switched to the mkv Ibiza 1.2 petrol fr.Great car, enough poke too.I don't do much mileage so doesn't warrant having diesel but if I had to I would try the 1.6 fr.
Definitely would recommend trying the 1.2 petrol fr out tho.

I wouldn't have thought you would have DPF issues with that sort of usage. My milage dropped right down and I seemed to be getting a regen every other journey, that is the only reason I sold it and went for the petrol option.
And yes you can get a 1.6tdi FR :)

Yeah I would like to think that I wouldnt have any problems with the DPF... and I didnt now you could get the 1.6tdi in fr that probably made my mind up I think the 2.0tdi would be wasted with journeys I take and I could get better mpg out of the 1.6... what sort of mpg you getting out of your petrol version ?

My 1.2 petrol with 5000 miles on the clock is returning about 47 mpg normal urban driving and on a recent 300 mile motorway run, sat at 70mph with the cruise control on it averaged 52mpg.
