I usually do all my own service work once my cars are out of warranty as I am sure a few people do. Ive recently done a full service, cambelt etc on my Cupra. Ive used all genuine parts and kept receipts etc. I was thinking of using Vistaprint to get a rubber/ink stamp made up just to tidy up the service book so it doesnt look so blank with just the boxes and mileages ticked.
Has anyone done this before? dont suppose there is any legal issues as long as your not trying to duplicate or imply a dealer stamp is there?

What would you put on the stamp? 'Serviced by myself' it's not a genuine stamp so I'd say it's a bit iffy.

I'm interested on other people's thoughts on this idea though...

I would sign it and attach all receipts to the page so it shows what was done and at what mileage

2nd. This is a better option than a stamp. At least you know where all your receipts are incase of problems

I'm not sure to be honest. I suppose I could make up a company name using my initials or something. Its just something to go with the receipts ive got.

People really get hung up about garage stamps. The lad that had my cupra before me had the car serviced and the cambelt changed. I asked for proof and the only proof he had was the stamp in the service book with a tick in the box for the timing Belt!! I stripped the car to double check, and guess what, it hadn't been done!

IMO, unless its accompanied by a receipt, assume the stamps are bollocks anyway

Yeah i do all that at the minute and included a printed breakdown of whats been done. Just was thinking about a stamp to go with the receipts etc to make it look a bit tidier. probably a bit of OCD kicking in lol

Yeah I know what you mean, I've got receipts for literally everything all the way down to odd litres of oil and screen wash, like yourself I do all my own servicing, my books never been stamped since I got the car, I'm hoping when I sell it the receipts wil do the talking.

I was just to get something like this made up with initials on it. Vistaprint do a self inking stamp for about £10. Not sure if your breaking any laws by having logos on it though??

That looks good tbh,
If I seen that in a service book I wouldn't question it

that is illegal
you can get done for copyright infringement by vag big fine which could be in the thousands
you can make up a stamp if your company is registered with companies house as you are legit
not sure if having a stamp made that just says joe bloggs is legal

also, dont think you need to be registered with companies house to be able to get a stamp. I thought you only needed to be registered with companies house if you are a Limited Company. Sole traders and non vat registered garages are different.

I think if you can PROVE that you have done the work yourself etc, then I think that will count for a lot more than a stamp mate

Pretty sure a lot of people would rather by from an enthusiast than have a stamp from a garage where you don't really know what they have actually done

Yeah i know mate. Ive ordered a stamp from Vistaprint. Just says "Serviced by Registered Owner using Genuine Parts". Satisfies my OCD and I now feel better. aaahhh......

That's actually quite good and isn't trying to fool anyone

For my bike I just keep all the receipts in a file in a sensible order, i.e. receipts for services by service, receipts for parts, receipts for mods etc.

No stamps or anything in the book, but if people care I can show them my receipts file (which they would get if they bought my bike) to prove I've done all the work.

Mileage is recorded on the receipts where appropriate, new tyres (see how many miles I am getting), services etc.

I'd probably just lose the stamp as time goes by anyway.
