I've always liked them, but the arches do ride higher than OEM, as Darren mentioned - same arch dimensions but flared out which gives it that higher look. If you like a lower look, then I wouldn't go this exact route - instead having the wider arches added on to your original wings as apposed direct replacements.

Not many have them, I'd go for it! ;)

The idea is that I can possibly fit my brakes and wheels but they might sit out of the arches to far, if they do I will fit those wings, if they don't I think I'll keep the standard wings.

Wheel faces had a few coats of basecoat last night just waiting to be lacquered, the colour has come out different to what I expected but in a really good way, there a high power gun metal colour that will hopefully go well with the car.

Well my bad luck continues ....

Spent ages getting my wheels ready for paint, they were finally painted Wednesday evening, Thursday evening they were cleaned, sealed and 120 new titanium split rim bolts fitted and torqued up (5hrs!) only to take them to the tyre centre today where they marked all 4 wheels with a tyre lever .... To say I'm pi##ed off is a major understatement!! :censored: unfortunately my friend loaded them into his van whilst I went in to pay and we didn't notice until we were a mile down the road unloading them at the workshop. By the time we had drove back they had locked up and gone home [:@]

Anyway I think it's time to put some wheel pics up. Some of you may have seen these wheels before, they were realised in a very limited number in 2001 to celebrate something to do with touring cars (I think) I've never seen another set bar a couple of old internet pics.

So here they are. 19" Forged, centre lock 2 piece split rims ... So now you can see why I'm having so many problems trying to get the brakes to fit, not only do the brakes hit the ball joints they also hit the wheels despite a lot of machining and 4 attempts at fitting .... I'm still not giving up I'm determined to get them to fit.

Wheel face prepped and primed

Caliper brackets designed, machined and mocked up on a Cupra hub

After a few nights of redesigning and machining this setup actually allowed me to fit the brakes with minimal clearance ....... Until another member pointed out the Cupra r hub had the ball joint 1.5" lower. A test fit confirmed they did not fit on the car and lots of swearing was done :cartman: the problem was I had purposely used a brake bell with a 20mm offset to allow maximum clearance between caliper and mating lip/face of the wheel so the only way to fit the discs was to have some custom bells machined up with a 1mm offset, this obviously meant the caliper would come forward 19mm then it is in the pic above ... Ummm no room for that :(

At this point I kind of gave up on the brakes and concentrated on getting the wheels painted seeing as custom bells came in at between £375-450! A hell of a lot of money for something that physically would not fit.

Basecoat

Lacquered.

Excuse the rubbish phone pics there actually a real high power gunmetal metallic pearl.

The faces were then sanded flat before they were sealed and bolted together with new titanium bolts ... At this point a little bit of magic together with some clever machining resulted in this.

The caliper is still touching despite a lot of work and this is far from final as it's not been tested on the car yet but there is a small chance I will be able to get this set up to work. Fingers are firmly crossed

So that's it really ..

Wheels look ace mate although I would be pretty f**ked off too if they had done that to my alloys aswell.

Don't give up on brakes mate, they'll get there and when they do you'll realise it was all worth the hassle

Simply cool! Will you be able to pop the tyre off the bead to repair and blend the scuffs? Hope so.

So, where does the caliper hit? Face of and on the the inner rim? Options at this point? Mill the caliper face, have the disc machined down from 380 to 370 with new carriers made up, take some excess metal off the outer facing edge of the ball joint to help? A pain in the tits I'm sure bud but hopefully you'll crack it sooner rather than later. Looking forward to seeing it all buttoned up

It hits the wheel where the 2 parts join and it did hit the outside edge of the caliper and the front face of the caliper but I've sorted that, it shouldn't hit the ball joint with the new bell but I'm yet to test it so can't say for sure. The only real option in to move the caliper towards the centre of the bell about a MM but I'm not sure I can as I've allowed a small gap between caliper and the outer edge of the disc to allow for heat expansion.

I'll try get it trial fitted one evening and see what I can do.

Nah not that one. I'm hoping the owner of the place will help sort it out as I know him and he currently gets work from my my friend who runs a business down the road. The thing that's annoyed me the most is they didn't need to touch the edge of the wheel at all yet they've taken all 4 down to the metal in places!

My spacing between the inner caliper and outer face of the disc is close. Luckily I was able to move the caliper out a bit to avoid contact, but with an 18inch wheel it's mega tight and I'm going to have to keep an eye on it. I did look at removing some of the material within the inner of the caliper? From what I've read and seen, a couple of mms is available to sand away without affecting the caliper's structural integrity.

Just as thought but I'm sure you've got a plan. Your skills outdo mine

Yeah there is enough meat to do that, the problem is I don't fancy elongating the caliper holes without a shim or dowel ... This is what I'm going to be looking into this week.

Do your pads overhang the outside of your disc? If so have you done anything about it? I reckon they will squeal so I might mark them and take them down with a stone grinder.

Those centre locks... im jealous!!

on another note, try to find a tyre fitter with a hunter machine( some 15k for one ive been told), they usually guarantee that they will not scratch your alloy.. i recently had to take my tyres off mine and seen it in action.. and they are right! no bars in sight!!

Yes mate, I reduced the edge to avoid hitting the bell, along with having to take some of the meat off the pad as I'm a tit and bought the wrong ones...

Hoping to get wheels re painted and fitted by end of the month aswell as a bit of progress with the brakes.
