Turbo noise (Police Siren)

Yeah. The sound is the bearings failing. This is nearly always caused by something, oil pressure issues, dirty oil, clogged feed pipe etc etc. Its important that a new feed pipe is installed, and the new turbo is primed and new oil and filter at the same time.
Think Midland warranty their units for 2 years.
 
Yeah. Will be having it all done on monday. Getting turbo from turbo technics and local mechanic going to fit it all.

Id just make sure they replace the oil feed pipe. If its this thats coked up and starved the old turbo, it will do the same to the new one! The pipes only approx £30 I think, or it was on the passat anyway.
 
Most of the mechanics I've spoken too including one Indi vag that comes highly recommended on here have stated that they would only replace oil feed and return pipes if damaged during removal. However they have all stated they will thoroughly clean the pipes in petrol or similar and blow about 60-100 psi through them as it will completely clear everything meaning they will be as new anyway.

The returns not so much of an issue. Its making sure the feed is completely clean without dirt. Yes they can break as its a solid pipe. I guess its all down to the mechanic. How many will thoroughly clean a pipe when its not their car and the warranty is with someone else?

Midland Turbo's warranty state that the feed pipe has to be replaced in order for their warranty to stand. They obviously think its important as they have to replace the unit if it fails again.
 
I agree, turbo technics says the same, I think I will look into price of one and see if can obtain it before Monday. The guy that is doing it has used turbo technics for 30 years without problem, but I am cursed when it comes to things like this. They also said will clean all other turbo pipes too.

Its obviously just the manufacturers covering their backs, as its not uncommon for techs to be less than efficient :rolleyes:.
My mate took his accord to a well respected garage to have his turbo replaced last week. Half way home his oil light came on. They hadn't tightened the return pipe properly and it emptied most of the oil into the under-tray :cry:

Ouch, did he get another new turbo cos anything less would be a disgrace
 
I swear I am jinxed, having dropped the car off this morning, had a call by 9 saying the garage cant do it today as the decision had been made not to replace the oil feed, however I queried this today due to the turbo technics warranty and the garage have phoned them and they have insisted it has to be done. The Garage couldnt source the feed pipe so have ordered one in for tomorrow and said i can either pick car up and drop off tomoz or claimed they would start car today and finish tomorrow, I agreed to the latter. Disappointed, I made a couple of calls and managed to find one in stock. 45 minutes later I phoned the garage back and they said it will have to wait till tomorrow now as they have put it off suggesting they are doing another job instead. I asked is there no way it can be done today, same answer. I am shocked considering it had been booked in for a week. What could they really have taken on/started in 45 minutes that would stop them doing mine. If it wasn't for wanting the turbo sager brought to an end I would go and collect my car and say forget it. It also suggests they lied about starting mine today.

Ha ha. Im so frustrated, I really want to phone back and put my point across, but then they'll probably do it but without a care in the world, which is not good as turbos are not something to do badly. I.e not prime it etc.
 
Thought you were going to buy the pipe last week and give it to the garage?
To give them some credit, at least they didn't tell you they had replaced it when they hadn't :cry: which they could have done, and you would have been none the wiser :blink:
Plenty of garages would have been happy to relieve you of your hard earned cash for work they haven't done.
 
Didn't get a chance to do anything cos of work commitments and shifts. Im not fussed by the pipe situation as its safer to have new one. Its just that they fobbed me off saying it couldnt now be done today when i found one within 45 minutes of the problem

The sager continues with the cursed car. Still no phone call from the garage that shuts at half 5 so I just called them for an update... Apparently the couriers lost the turbo which should have arrived yesterday but didnt. They and turbo technics have been trying to find it for the last 24 hours and it has only just arrived. I asked why i wasnt told yesterday and he said didnt want to cause alarm when it may have arrived whilst they were taking old one out. Bottom line is car not going to be ready until tomorrow. It is allegedly stripped and he is going to start fitting tonight and finish tomorrow. Doesnt help with the two days ive wasted waiting to go pick it up and now on night shifts so tomorrows sleep will be disrupted too. Lets just hope it goes in without any performance issues etc

I would strongly suggest you don't drive the car whilst the turbo needs replacing... You could do a lot more damage if it blows and sends a whole host of parts through the engine.
