Hi Guys, I was wondering if you could help me with understanding the lights on the new dashboard in the Ibiza I just bought as I think there may be a problem.

The defective bulb light on the dashboard always looks dim, even when I turn the ignition on. It also flashes dimly when I use my right indicator or stays dimly on when I have my rear fog lights on.

I'm trying to work out if there is a problem or just light leaking around behind the dash. I started to worry when i noticed it dimly lights up when I turn the cruise control on.

I dont get this issue with my light. I can see that the cruise control may leak some light into the bulb warning as they are next to each other, but i cant see that being the case for the others.

Do you get a beep when you turn the ignition on? If you do i would suspect you have got a faulty bulb somewhere.

Also is the car new? If so why not pop into the dealer to see what they recon?

Thank for the reply, I will check the beep tomorrow and let you know. On my ibiza, the cruise control light is on the other segment to the defective bulb light.

I got it second hand and it is an 11 plate so not under Seat warranty, but the dealer I bought it off gives a 3 month warranty with their cars so I shall phone them tomorrow.

I checked for the beep and I cant here one. Contacted the dealer, the warranty only covers if the car cannot be driven. So I guess I will have to wait and see if it gets worse, if it does I will just have to get it fixed.

what utter bo**ox.

so they are telling you that if the windscreen wipers pack in - they are not covered because the car can still be driven !!!!!!!!!!

An issue with the car is an issue with the car - never mind if it can be driven with that fault or not.

Here are some picture I took of the dashboard. I had to do it when it was darkish so the light is obvious

I cant post links yet as I have not posted enough.

This light looks the same with the boot open light on and the cruise control activated light on.

I spoke with Seat before starting this thread to get an opinion and they said a possible grounding issue, same as my last Seat, before I had to get the dash repaired on that one.

I was going to email the dealer and say that the car was faulty when I bought it and it was not obvious it was nor was it made clear to me it was faulty. This the right was to go you think??

Emailed them stating that the car was faulty and I was not made aware of this, so they should repair it regardless of warranty.

Lets see what they say.

So I got an email back...

"Thanks for your email. As per our conversation, I made a suggestion as to what the fault might be I did not diagnose a definite cause. Either way, you purchased this vehicle with a warranty covering MAJOR mechanical faults/failures. This was fully explained to you and for the record this covers the basic running of the vehicle. Does the car start, run, stop and do these things adequately for the cars age and miles. This does not cover a light bulb malfunction warning light dimly illuminating whatever the cause.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding."

Still doesn't explain buying a faulty car does it...

Not on finance, got another email back and there saying that the car is 4 years old and I took it with a warranty that covers major problems.

Also they are saying that is was sold as a used vehicle, so they wont do anything.

Warning lights on a dash is an MOT failure.

And trading standards would have something to say about the "sold as seen" bo**ox they are spouting

The warning light is faint but not on, and only when some other lights are on.

I was thinking about contacting them. Is it worth it??
