Hi Guys,

I picked up a cheap turbo from ebay the other day ,and as the title says I am now wondering if its too good to be true.

Can anyone tell me how to uplaod photos from my PC ? and I will post a few, for some opinions.

It has usual borg warner /Vw audi security tag i assume if the turbo can be replicated then this would be easy to do also.

Number on tag are TOP ROW 06A 145 704 Q BOTTOM ROW 023 HI 50086971 ,

Inlet housing ,5304 101 5078 (14045)

and Exhaust housing NISI CR 3532.

Any help is much appreciated guys, thanks!

The general word on the street are that these turbos are cheap copys of the real thing imported from china! A genuine one would usually cost anything upwards from £500+vat possibly more! The build quality would not be close to the genuine turbo, so you could be looking at a massively reduced life span and possibly engine damage if it craps itself! The numbers on the turbo are as you said prob very easy to replicate from the genuine! A mate bought one as a cheap alternative for a drift car and it gave up after 2months, however he did say he was raggin the crap out of it, and it was punching 300+bhp which is more than the genuine one can handle safely, so maybe it will be ok if your running standard boost!

Thanks for reply Slim,

Yeah Ive been doing some research on fake replica K04s but cant find anything conclusive to prove yes or no.

I have been assured from the UK seller I bought it from that its a Genuine Borg Warner ,but im not convinced.

Do you know how to uplaoad photos from PC?

Cheers, Richard

Thanks Bill,

How do I go about uploading photos from my PC ?

What are inserted threads? how do they differ from tapped?

If I cant find out how to upload any today, I will email you some pictures tonight.

Thanks again for your help, Richard.

Check his feedback, if its good then it could be the real deal! How much did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking? Did you look at the borg warner site to compare prices? I have no idea how to upload pics, I have the same problem myself!lol I always use the age old saying if its too good to be true it usually is!!! When you consider second hand turbo units for these cars can still fetch 150-200quid. Sometimes common sense is as good as 30years under a bonnet! If it turns out to be genuine, make sure and post a link to ebay!lol I want one!!

Hi Slim,

His feedback is 100% but only sold 24 items, it was around the £200 mark and he only had the one for sale.hmm? does seem to good to be true , but you never know.

He said it was from a new engine that had turbo replaced with an upgraded unit and was definitely genuine as I asked before purchase.

I dont know if you can still view it but thats the link.

Hoping Bill might be able to shed some light on the subject after a look at some photos Ive now uploaded.

Id say your ok, if it was pulled from another car its prob genuine, I was going under the assumption you bought it brand new from ebay for cheap! They are the cheap copies I was talking about! Id say your good to go mate! And as you asked before purchase if its not genuine you will get your money back anyway! Has the turbo covered many miles?

I did buy it brand new, It was pulled from a new engine apparently?

It was cheap, and covered 0 miles.

Yeah should be covered through paypal as you said, was just wanting to know if its real or not so I can return it if it is fake/copy.

Does it have a triangle with kkk inside it or one big k on the casing anywhere, there should also be a metal plate rivited to the casing, with all the info about the turbo etched on to it! I'm no expert mate, far from it, and bill is greatly respected on this forum by everyone including me! But something just ain't right! I done a little research on this last night, there is alot of fake stuff out there, including people with genuine borg warner casings and fitting cheap poor fitting chra's! I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud here but I hate to see people being ripped off!
