Just purchased a 1.2 TSI 110 SE DSG from Motorpoint in Derby.

Whilst driving it home to Norfolk, when I eventually got near to the A1 at near Newark, I got stuck in stop/start traffic before joining the A1. Then when I was driving along the A1 the oil temperature came up on the drivers display and was showing varying readings between a maximum of 103 degrees C and 98 degrees C would you expect this to be normal.

Whilst driving the A1 my speed never exceeded 72 mph.

Thank you for your observations

Completely normal. Mine was sitting at 106 deg a couple of weeks ago.

If you check the manual it says normal operating temp is up to 120 deg and basically not to worry unless a warning is displayed.

Thanks for that chris,

As the car was new to me I assumed that it was a warning ( incorrectly ) I was getting a bit confused, thinking of the boiling point of water being 100 degrees C.

Got me thinking now however, why, if its within normal specifications, why does it come up on the display ?

It's a nice to have thing.

The modern turbo will last you much longer if you wait till the oil is 80c+ before you thrash it.

Also - oil temp is a far better reading for the engine being up to temp than the water temp.

Hi Deano

Yes I agree its always a benefit to have too much info than not enough, the fact that it was a new feature to me on a car got me a bit confused, now its been explained I can rest easy.

Thanks

If you go into the settings on the infotainment screen you can switch on / off the readings you want to see on the display.

So if you only want to see mpg, speed and time you can have it only display those if you wish.

Thanx once again chris,

Now you've pointed that out I will "have a play" and decide what info I want displayed.
