I work next to two garages and both offer remaps. One uses Collins performance and the other uses BHP UK. Both are the same price so don't know who to use.

Any one used any of these for a remap before? I want mainly better MPG but the extra torque will be nice. Don't want anything too crazy

Ive had the bluefin remap on my 143 tdi for about 3 weeks now and am quietly happy with it.

Superchips claim +33 bhp and 60nm.

The difference is quite subtle, more torque and definitely more go all over but it's not a massive change. The revotecnik remap on my 1.9 Altea was a huge difference, ,this is less so.

Mpg is about 2-3 better (working out and 5 better on mfd) with same driving. Pulling out of 30 zones in 4th when changing to 60 zones is particularly impressive.

So, a little more go and slightly better mpg, what's not to like?

The process was painless and cost £360. i can also revert back to standard in minutes if required.

No adverse effects on dpf so far either.

Hope that provides a real world view for you.

Neil.

How old is your car Neil?

I've always fancied a bluefin on all of my previous cars but never got round to it. But was looking on their website and they have a disclaimer up saying that my ecu may be locked. Or if it isnt locked now but goes into seat dealer for any work they may update the ecu and lock it and overwrite the remap.

The two garages next to me can unlock the ecu if it is security locked and they've both said that if seat to overwrite the remap they would reinstall it free of charge.

As for one map fits all not sure what Rich meant by that as even bluefin don't give you a custom map. Both BHP and Collins ask for your old map to be sent to them first so they can provide the correct remap back.

I meant that as far as I know - and I may be wrong - BHP UK were one of the companies who bought their maps from someone else and were basically a retailer, so it's less likely your map will be the most up to date and optimised for your car.

I took the easy route and bought a DTUK box which I'm very very happy with.

From looking around at remaps, if I had a diesel I would probably try the DTUK route. They are a sponsor of the forums and have seen them offering a discount in the past.

Ah I see. Not sure myself on that. All I know is that a reputable mechanics garage next to my work place offers the remaps on behalf of BHP UK and another mechanics garage on the same industrial estate offers them from Collins performance.

I've always heard bad things about tuning boxes, that may just be the ones off eBay lol. How do these DTUK boxes work?

Hi Dave,

It's a 2010.

If you're thinking of a Bluefin get in touch with them to check if all would be good for your year.

The remap is on the handset, so if Seat over-write it then it takes a couple of minutes to redo it, or I can regress to the original map before putting it into the dealer.

I'm happy with the remap, it's a lot less abrupt than the Revo I had on my Altea.

Best of luck deciding.

Neil.

I am looking at this myself. It's between REVO and Bluefin for me, both can now flash via OBD even when locked.

Bluefin is the lead as I like the self service option and the ease of re-flashing if SEAT wipe my map.

Just waiting for a sale event as Bluefin is £499 at the mo.

Pay the extra and go APR.

Not the cheapest but certainly one of (if not) the best maps you'll get.

Plus once you've bought the first stage map, all the follwing upgrades are free (barring a small fee for the labour to update the map)

I'm considering Revo for my 143 Sport Tech. What do you mean by yours being abrupt Neil?

the remap from revo on my 1.9 tdi Altea was nothing, nothing then bam, neck wrenching acceleration.

The bluefin on the Exeo is a lot smoother, feels like there's a bit extra everywhere in the revs.

The CR TDI is a lot smoother than the 1.9 pd engine anyway and the bluefin doesn't change that.

I hope that helps.

Do some googling - but I think BHP UK are using someone elses one-size-fits-all maps.

I work for BHP UK & hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this.

I can assure you that we do not buy any maps & all our maps are written in house & developed on our own Dynojet rolling road. You can see us listed as a Dynojet centre on their homepage; ( Google dynojet.co.uk/index.php/atcs?type=4)
We have in fact 135 dealers that retail our maps, but whenever our dealers take a read from your ECU, the reading is sent to us & then that reading is modified by one of our in house map writers, making every map we sell a custom remap.

Not only do we write our own maps but we are trusted by the trade sector of the automotive industry to deliver seminars on the subject; (Google mechanex.info/technical-seminars )

Hiya mate that's good to hear. I work next to Chris Lewis Mechanical Services in Llandudno Junction and he's always saying how good you are.
I couldn't find any figures for the exeo on your site.
Don't suppose you know what sort of gains I would be looking at for a 2012 2.0tdi 143 sport tech do you?

The last 143bhp Exeo we had on our dyno made 178bhp at the clutch (167bhp at the wheels, so we are only claiming a realistic transmission loss of 11bhp)

Our web guys are aware that the car is not listed & will be posting the figures & dyno plots today.

I'll post the link for you later.

Thanks I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I'm still debating the 2 as never had remap before. I love the Exeo but just feel it lacks a bit of grunt for the quick overtake. The neck wrenching acceleration does sound fun though! Lot's of A4 and a5 drivers seem to rate the Revo maps on the CR tdi's.

My 2010 TDI 170 has been Revo mapped and is very smooth with lots of torque. Nothing alarming like 'neck snapping' just a good power band that suits a car of this size. Having owned Impreza's that have been vastly character changed due to re-mapping the exeo re-map seems just about right. Comparing petrol jap performance cars to diesel CR re-maps isn't exactly a fair comparison and shouldn't worry anybody concerned thinking about going down the Revo route.

Having previously worked for Revo dealers for the last few years I have to say that their CR software is a masterpiece.
APR don't offer diesel software unless it's a new thing.
dealers rarely wipe your ECU, that's an old wives tale.
A Revo dealer or any decent tuning company will re install software for free or a small nominal fee if it's lost for what ever reason.
