condenser leak

HI all 2011 fr 211 aircon not very cold add regas done no leaks as usual said there was only 180 grames in it. looked to day with ultra violet torch can see what looks like green spots on right hand side from front. can condenser be changed with out removing bumper. looked on elsawin cant make sense of bumper removal

You can't get at the fixings without taking the bumper off, and the condenser is in front, between the coolant radiator and the bumper itself.

Now I've had a look at Elsawin as well. The center guides that it talks about screw into holes left by the removal of two of the retaining bolts and allow you to slide the bumper beam and the Lock Carrier - which is the frame surrounding the radiator/condenser/intercooler assembly, and which also carries the bonnet lock - forwards while still supporting the components, to prevent putting strain on the pipework. Once there is some space, you can get the radiator etc. out of the frame, but you must support it on something.

The other possibility for the a/c not getting cold is the compressor, but I'm not sure how you'd test it.

Thanks for help I will have better look to make shore there is leak. I will then have a go at changing condenser only got drive to work so need dry day

Any one changed condenser. Genuine or after market condenser and do I need new seals

Changed mine a few weeks ago, SEAT quoted 295 for a condenser so I went aftermarket. Got new seals from SEAT just to be safe, only a couple of quid. Bumper off, headlights off, crash bar off, then as Muttley said, slide forward the lock carrier whilst supporting the weight of the radiator/intercooler/condenser...

yes always replace the seals when swapping the condensor and aftermarket from ecp or equiv will do just fine the job is easy enough the condensor is right at the front after removing the bumper make sure the system is fully degassed before starting.

thanks what sort of time scale to change on drive can use spanners

Took me about 3 hours, I'm no mechanic though. You'll probably need another pair of hands when it comes to removing and replacing the lock carrier, and also when reconnecting the pipes to the condenser.

just one thing what oil to oil o rings and do you need to add oil to condenser before fitting don't want to buy oil that never use again
