Remap and then possible break upgrade? Should I go for it?

Basically I've always wanted a remap on my cars but never had a car that was either worth doing it on or in a good enough mechanical condition to take a remap. Now ive got my 3yr old 33,000 mile exeo diesel 143ps and am seriously considering it. I've had the car 6 months and had no issues with it but am still a bit unsure on if it's a good idea or not? Just need a final push off the cliff with this decision lol

I live in North Wales and do 15k a year just to and from work mainly dual carriage and B road always getting stuck being a tractor, caravan or horse box so the extra ompth for over takes would be nice other than that I'm not gonna be killing the engine round a track etc

For the guys that have had remaps on their exeos did any of you encounter any problems down the road which could have been agrivated by a remap?

And obvisiouly I may want to upgrade the breaks if I get it done. Don't wanna have to go replacing the calipers as I wanna upgrade to a Cupar 280 St in a couple of years so don't wanna spend silly money. So what can I do to increase stopping power? Am I only left with ebc or similar pads or can I upgrade the discs aswell?

Thanks in advance guys

I've got the 170 and felt it lacked performance compared to my previous Golf 150, so I splashed the nearly £400 on a TDUK tuning box and have been grinning like a loon ever since. I would heartily recommend it.

Brakes wise, if I remember correctly the 143 has 288mm discs, and you should be able to upgrade to the 312mm discs from the 170 with a change of caliper carrier brackets and bigger discs. Figure £100 for the discs and probably at least as much again for the two bent bits of iron that form the caliper carriers.

How long you been running the map for now? Im guessing no issues with extra strain on the engine/gear box etc?

That doesn't seem to bad seeing as ive been quoted mates rates of £100 for standard oem discs as I may need them replacing at service next year.

I don't have one on my Exeo, but I did have a Custom Code remap on my Mk1 Leon Cupra and I have to say I was surprised by the difference, in a good way!

From what I have heard the clutch and DMF might go quicker with a remap, but I guess a lot of that will depend on how you drive the car.

I also have the 143 model, and my discs need replacing, so I am looking to fit the larger carrier and discs from the 170 on the front, the rears will stay the same 143 size.

I've had the map for close on a year now, and there's nothing I can put my hand on heart to and swear is all the fault of the tuning box.

Discs were about £50 each from Eurocar parts (Pagid brand) but I dont know the cost of the carriers. When I did my Golf the carriers were fetching £100 plus from breakers and Ebay as everyone knew they were a sought after item.

Hmm might have to take the plunge and get it done. I'm going for a BHP UK remamp through a garage we know at work. Seems like normal power and torque gains for what every one else is quoting.

Have the 143, 288mm discs front, 245mm rear.
To increase brake performance I bougth 312mm Brebo Max discs, ate pads, used caliper carrier 4B0615125C. Bang on.
Have to change rear discs, so I go for upgrade. Bought 255mm Brembo discs, new pads and new caliper carrier 8E0615425G.
The carrier hassent arrived from germany, so no installation yet.
The performance is stunning! But for the rear upgrade I dont think it will much difference.

I have also orderd from swedish BSR a special remap. You get a data unit whit the remap. You plug it into obd, read the orignal map from the ecu, and saves it on the unit. Then you flash the ecu with the new map.
They claim you get 191HP / 431NM.
Also orderd eibach springs.

Well took the dive and had it done. Am really impressed with the balanced map that BHP-UK did for me. So much smoother and it just pulls right through the revs. Should hopefully see some better MPG figures aswell.

Would highly recommend these guys.

Yeah I too want to get it done..... have asked a quote from Troque Tronix in County Antrim NI.

Has anyone here had any first hand experience? Read elsewhere online they are very good, but want to make sure!

Often thought about doing this or upgrading the exhaust, but I was just wondering how much this affects the insurance sums you pay? Does it make a vast difference or not?

Phone your insurance company and ask them what extra premium you would be paying if you had it done. They might say that they wouldn't insure you so if that's the case phone around for some quotes at known modified car insurers.
