Head unit recommendations

That reminds me of something I have meant to ask before, if you are listening to the head unit with the engine off or stall the car, power is cut to the head unit on turning the key so it has to do the tedious boot-up on many units.
So my question is - Does some gizmo exist that could be fitted inline to the +12V feed that would buffer this temporary voltage drop (or whatever) ?

Android 4.4 vw unit. Fitted this easily myself, it's a direct fit for VW/Seat headunits.
Paid about £260 on ebay and it's been awesome. Literally does everything you could want from a headunit as it's essentially an android tablet. Apps, nav, usb, microsd blaa de blaa...

Hey Matt, I'm very interested to something like that.
Some questions:
-do you need an additional DIN cage or is it just a matter of taking the old HU out and fit the new one?
-did you use the standard fascia?
-is the canbus box a separate box I need to check is included in the kit or they all do come with it? [the similar HU I bought for my gf worked straight away with no external can bus box on her Focus]

Thanx in advance.

Hi Basstard

Straight swap with the original headunit.
Standard fascia fits just fine.
Canbus box is a separate little box unit, but it is included with the product that I purchased. It just plugs in with the rest of the cables. It works with the steering wheel and climate controls.

Thanx a lot buddy!
About the fascia, thing is you have a facelift mk2 while I have the pre-facelift. The fascia I have has a bevel towards the center... will have to see if that clears the HU or not. In case it doesn't, I might try the facelift fascia to see if it fits...

IDK mate, I still have to buy the HU itself [money has to go into some bodywork repair before that]. As said, you could try the faceilft fascia and see if that fits the pre faceilft console.
