Hi guys, I'm Tom :)

Forum looks awesome and I'm looking forward to buying a Leon... There are just a few questions I have beforehand.

Firstly, I am looking at the mk3 2.0 FR 184 - but are there any common problems to look out for?

Secondly, are there any options I would want on it?

Thirdly, I have been browsing the DTUK page looking at tuning boxes :D

Are they as good as people say?

Would I need the max response, ultimate control or both?

Finally, I saw this car and quite like it...

eBay ID - 182003808787

It says 2.0 but doesn't say the power output??

If it's less, could it still be tuned using the same equipment (DTUK) as the 184...? As in, are they just the same engines running different maps anyway?

Sorry for the daft questions. I'm a biker who's wife is pregnant, so I've sold the bike and now I need a "family car" but I want one that's still going to be a laugh for me

Thanks for the help guys!

Tom :D

You will regret it when that sun starts shining in summer

the 2 litre is a solid motor and you dont get many complaints on here about them!

options are down to personal preference but if you are going pre owned route then you are limited to what is available

there is a big thread somewhere on here all about the DTUK boxes it might be worth looking for it and having a read through

By the looks of it that is a 150 with the convenience pack, lane assist, Alcantara and a spare wheel...

The bigger difference between the 150 and the 184 from memory is the suspension (I'm sure someone else will arrive with more details and say I'm wrong).. Personally it looks good value for the money...

Correct
184 has independent rear suspension - 150 has a beam
184 has bigger brakes than the 150

To quickly identify a 184 from outside - look at the rear calipers

184 calipers are in line with the wheel axle
150 calipers are above the axle line

got the 184 and the suspension is good; brakes too.
common probs across the range seem to be occasional water leaks around door, self-levelling headlamps (LED only) that refuse to raise to driving level, satnav that starts in Wolfsburg.
Watch the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) if you do mainly short journeys.
Had mine 2 years and not a single problem....still loving it:)

Thanks guys!

I will definitely get a 184 then!

As for the packs (technology pack, convenience pack etc...) what do you get with each?

If there is a link or something you can provide me with, that would be great. I don't expect anyone to type it all out.

Thanks for the advice guys!

I know I definitely want alcantara, sat nav and DAB radio.

I'd also like the lovely dual exhaust system and rear bumper... But I'm guessing I can buy that direct from seat.

Thank you guys!!

Tech pack = led headlights, satnav, DAB

Convenience = auto lights, auto wipers + other bits

I've got a 184 DSG and it's great. I had a DTUK box on for a bit and then changed it for a box from TDI Tuning.
It's a better box, transformed the car!

Had my FR184 for 8 mouths now great car, its 2 cars in one it will potter around town and when you want a bit of fun it picks its feet up.Good on fuel 40 to 60 a gallon depending,I got it from Lookers Stockport a nearly new so depending on the amount you have it may be worth a visit to a main dealer. The dpf filter could be a problem if you only drive in town it needs a run every 2 or 3 weeks if you do a lot of short trips.

Thanks a lot guys!!

So can you get convenience pack + tech pack on 1 car... It looks commen to me ???

As for the DTUK box, I thought people were getting about 230hp - 240hp at the crank and loving how smooth the delivery was?? What's the difference with the TDI tuning box?

Finally, I'll be using the car for work every day, which is around a 15 mile motorway commute each way... So hopefully that should be ok. I'll also take it for a goon on weekends with the VAG boys I know haha!

Cheers!!

The TDI Tuning version has better fuelling at the bottom end and the engine just seems to run more refined IMO. Certainly less DPF regens (no more than stock engine now).
Power outputs quoted are about the same, but mine definitely feels better with the TDI Tuning box on.
DTUK push hard on the forums (and why not?) and TDI Tuning don't so much so most people (on here anyway) tend to go with DTUK. Most are very happy, I'm just a little bit more happy!!!
Ring and talk to both, it's your money!
And no, I have no connection with TDI Tuning, I just want people on here to be well informed and realise they have a choice.
Either way you'll be smiling and glad you did!

I personally had horrendous experience with my 184 with dtuk box on it and had to have 2 boost pressure sensors replaced and engine sounded like bag of nails and constantly tripping into limp mode. Took box off and car ran like a dream so make your own mind up. Dtuk will defend their box and blame it on the car (obviously) so I can only talk from my own problems.

That's great thank you guys!

What's the price difference between the 2 boxes?

Also, what power can I achieve with reletavily simple mods?

Tuning box, filter, exhaust... That kinda stuff?

Thank you!

DTUK quote 240PS and 500Nm,
TDI Tuning quote 243PS and 464Nm.
I think the DSG limiting factor on the torque, so TDI set it slightly lower.
Both cost about £360.
The numbers are good for 'pub chat' but it's the driving experience that counts and the way it makes the power, the drivability and the long term reliability that counts.
You won't be driving flat out all the time, so 'good manners' during the calm moments are essential.
The DTUK does look great with buttons and lights, but once set you won't be fussed about that.
Decisions decisions...!

Forgot to say, I'm on standard exhaust and filter, but I will change the filter soon which apparently helps a bit too

I've got DTUK, custom cat back exhaust and Pipercross Panel Filter. I had the DTUK first and it transformed the car. And then the exhaust and it seems to sharpen the throttle even more plus adds a bit of sound. And then I fitted the filter last week and that added a bit more throttle response

You can get any option packs on any cars. The majority of them have Tech pack anyway, because Seat were offering it free for most of the time. I have Tech + convenience + alcantara + Seat Sound on my car.

Yeah I am wanting a 184 with convenience, technology, alcantara and seat sound. I also want nice wheels, because the standard wheels are the worst wheels I have ever seen in my life haha!

I think the Titanium pack has the better wheels...

There was a 184 at Motorpoint but they now only have a 150. (And a Cupra)

The code is 599591. Low miles and good price but no Tech pack according to ad.

I got my one (150) from there and found that it had extras which weren't mentioned, so keep an eye on the site. They do go quick...
