I've been looking into getting a Leon for awhile now. But I've just been offered a golf over the Leon (both similar spec)for only £20 extra a month an just wanted everyone's thought on it, Ie is the golf better than the Leon ?

the golf r is better than a leon se i think we can all agree but if you have speced them like for like then its for you to decide, have you driven both cars? i was impressed by the leon compared to some of its rivals

Your bound to get an unbiased view on a Seat forum......

Basically the same cars but the golf is for the badge snob IMHO

Me ive go a ST184 Fr and i cant fault it, goes well and returns decent mpg so you can see what i go for!!

I was facing a similar decision lately and went with the Leon, for me personally it looks better, driving position seems a bit better, the way the A-pillars are made gives you better sight. I find the Full Link in the Leon better than the infotainment system in the Golf (don't remember the name). Another aspect for me was that every other car seems to be a Golf, Focus or Astra.

I think no one will be able to tell you which is better as they are pretty much the same car, it all comes down to personal preference.

I drive both cars... see signature. The golf feels posher than the Leon and feels slightly more up market. However for the cost of the wife's 1.4 125 bhp golf match, I got a 150 bhp Leon FR with sound, navigation climate etc. However she gets adaptive cruise as standard.

If I could transport the golf's interior, sound proofing and all together slightly more expensive feel into my car I would. I nearly got a golf, but the Leon had more bits and most importantly was faster. Next time I would probably go for the octavia for the bigger boot, having a child takes up more space than anticipated

This is something I totally agree with the Golf does feel slightly more upmarket and yet I forgot to mention it, my car haven't arrived yet and I am already biased :D Also you have to pay extra for the rear seat armrest in the Leon (which I know is not something big, but really....).

£20 is a lot more a month for a car that is more or less the same car (Nearly half a tank of Fuel or a years Road Fund) I haven't driven a MK7 golf but I don't think its that much better than a Leon

Which would you say drives better out of the two? Also the button handbrake on the golf good or bad

Thanks

Can you still get climate control on the Leon just when I was building one I couldn't see an option to add it?

I like the electronic handbrake as I never touch it, disengages when pulling away and applies when stopped. However the wife randomly complains its stopped working, I've never experienced this though.

Both drive very similar. Golf's a little quieter, mines more fun, but I put that down to more power, mine seems to slide a bit more, but that's possibly because I drive it harder....and the crap Bridgestone tyres

Climate is standard on the fr

One other thing we got both cars within a month of each other. She ordered hers before mine. We needed to cut costs and I kept trying to get her into a seat showroom. Wasnt interested as 'i don't like them' I ordered my car after hers but got delivery before.. She now says she prefers mine... Typical could have saved some cash

I am not in the UK so not very helpful, nevertheless here, in Bulgaria, the Leon comes with Climate control as standard in SE trim as well, not available in S. My suggestion would be to check with a dealer.

Regarding the button handbrake, not a fan, it was a constant headache in the Passat but it was a '08 car so things might have changed.

You're not meant to put the child in the boot. I find the rear seat can accommodate up to two, with car seats, quite well, but I suppose it depends on size of your hareem.

If the spec is similar or better on the Leon, at £20 less per month (that would cover a mobile contract) I'd take the Leon every time.

I test drove both (back to back) and preferred both the exterior and interior of the Leon. I didn't like all that shiny black plastic in the Golf. On lease, the equivalent Golf was almost £100/month more so my choice was easy.

Ive just ordered a Leon 150 FR over the Golf GT, the Golf was going to cost me 225 /month with Met paint and service package whereas the Leon will cost me 187 with met paint, so a fair difference. Much as I like the Golf it seemed it just wasn't enough to pay the extra also with no xenons or Led headlights which would have bumped the price up again. I was even getting the 1500 loyalty offer from VW so the actual otr price of the two was only about 500 or so difference but the 0% from Seat swung it for me.
One thing that I can't get to grips with in the current VWs is the steering wheel controls for cruise/maxidot etc, they were very intuitive up to the MK6 then they changed them and only driving the wifes Polo GTI occasionally I can't get to grips with them.

After owning a Leon 280 Cupra and now A VW jetta 2ltdi Sport the Leon is far better looking than golf (Golf far better looking than my VW Jetta) Why did I get a Jetta giving to use by my father-in-law with only 4k on the clock and almost every extra VW do, I not over keen on it but we don't feel we can sell it yet as may hurt his fellings. (only had it 4 months) But one thing I can say and I know a lot of Seat owner will disagree with me but the VW is by far a much better quality car all round but I would still have another Seat may be one day. Seat better value.

better still than putting kids in the boot, get a Thule roof box. Then you get ALL the boot back, and you can't hear them squalling and stuff ...

Do you notice a difference in the headlights as I know the Leon has got full led lights and th golf hasn't. Thanks

Mrs Rog. has a mk7 Golf 1.6 SE, I've got the Leon FR 150. The interior of the Golf is a slightly nicer place to be, I prefer the brushed chrome trim in the Golf. Not much difference in the way they drive, other than more power in my Leon. The difference in trim/options seems a bit random - the Golf had auto lights and wipers but standard air con, I've got climate control but no auto lights etc. I do prefer the white light from the LED headlights on the Leon to the standard lights on the VW.

I think ultimately if price/performance/kit were all the same I'd go for the Golf, but I definitely wouldn't pay any more for it, so I'm happy with my choice. Mrs Rog. is more of a badge snob, so she's quite happy to pay more (for less!).
