This is wrong they are not air cooled they are liquid cooled, unless old engine but I have 2014 LEON FR 150 and its a water supercharger and two radiators one fat and one skinny, there is a small square box which is cooled by water vw call them liquid supercharger, there is no intercooler on this car to do mod, its a water cooled box mounted on the engine, see vw liquid supercharger on ELSA WIN and you will see, golf gtd , and both leon fr 150 and 184 are the same.
I took mine apart to change the lights from halogen to led and found engine strange no intercooler lol

Eh? Just taken delivery of a 2.0 tdi 150 Passat ( assume same engine) and it appears to have an intercooler, air/air type. The 'fat' radiator will be normal rad, the 'skinny' one could be air con rad. Do not know if the turbo is water cooled on the diesels but know it is on the Cupra, you can hear the pump running when you switch off.
I think the 1.4 tsi had a water/air intercooler but not sure.

Leon FR 150/184 don't have intercooler, its two liquid cooled radiator and a liquid supercharger.

car has 3 water pumps, there is one at the back of the engine there is one at the front and one at engine driving belt, there is no intercooler on this car, the big front radiator is connected to a big thermostat housing which then splits to 4 lines, the skinny radiator is also water cooler not air, its connected to the front electric water pump, the turbo is also water cooled, the pump at the back its the one that cools the turbo this pump stop working 3 minutes or more after locking the car with key, I will assume that the front pump will be the one that cooling the so called liquid supercharging this pump only works after car is hot, on my car this pump did not work with car on idle, apparently this pump works straight if car on sports mode also the radiator fan kicks in in mid speed, the vw liquid supercharging is a box which is the cooled by water also with huge huge pipe coming from the turbo to the engine don't know how it works but its water cooled not air.
No front intercooler on this car, maybe your engine is different

The Passat looks broadly the same as the previous 140 I had, as a company motor I've not looked too closely. As you say, maybe the Leon is different.
