Sometimes doing more miles is actually better than low mileage -- to get it properly warmed up etc. especially if it's motorway miles, motorway miles are easy on parts like brakes and gearbox - at least this is my assumption. My car went to nearly 60,000 miles on it's first set of brake pads as I do a far number of motorway miles!

I did have the turbo problem right at the start and then a dodgy HT lead a few months before the warranty ran out, but since then it's been fine. One little wobble with the power steering stopping working once but that came back once restarted and hasn't occurred since. I haven't had to change any other parts on the car - not even lightbulbs, never replaced any of them. It does eat tyres a bit though - mostly as with the low profile tyres on the 17" wheels they get damaged easily if kerbed. Other than that it's been good... hope I'm not tempting fate now.

Last service the guys I used said they couldn't find any other potential issues only that there was a bit of corrosion on the exhaust pipe but it could last for another 2 years. They seemed disappointed LOL, they're good guys though and I do trust them, they don't do work that's not necessary.

I'm considering taking it to the seat dealers for a proper annual service and to give me as much history as they can on the vehicle. I'm pretty hands-on, but don't really have the time any more, and the 1.2 TSI is a lot more complicated than the 1.4 8v it replaced.

And soooo much more fun. Now I've be spoilt by the turbo I couldn't go back to a normal petrol, the torque makes the car so much easier to drive, it picks up without revving the nuts off it, anything over 2500RPM you're good to go. I can even under certain circumstances crawl along in traffic at like 1mph with no feet on any peddles, it just doesn't stall as easily. I had a 1.4 16v75ps before and it was terrible for needing to be revved hard to go. I have the 105 TSI version but for any of them they'll be nice to drive compared to a similar size normal petrol engine :)

My 1.4 16V doesn't need reving to move at 1mph.

Lol no I don't mean that but in the TSI I'm not on and off the clutch/ gas so much at low revs and it can crawl with no input at all sometimes no gas or clutch does depend on the situation though, I can only do that sometimes.

I think what you mean is it's almost diesel like in the way you drive that engine

Amazing! I do plan to get another when I'm bored or fed up with my Leon. Do like the 2.0 units

After the chain change did your engine feel slower? I have this funny feeling my engine feels either tighter or slower

Despite the fairly wimpy sounding 60PS which the mk2 1.4 8V was rated at, it's still a remarkably drivable car. The boffins at VAG appear to have tuned the engine for low down torque (peak at 3000rpm), as the delivery is smooth right up to about 5K - beyond that it's gutless.

This makes for an incredibly easy to drive car - once you've got your head around the fact it won't tear up the tarmac, it actually felt faster than the 1.2 16v corsa it replaced.

The current crop of non-diesel superminis mostly seem to have multi-valve engines, and that makes for a lot of frantic cog-stirring when you want to get moving. The growing trend for forced induction on a small motor is a pleasant counterpoint to that.

You're probably right there, never drove the 8v. My 16v was pretty gutless. I did have a 1.2 as a courtesy car at one point (think that was the 3 cylinder model Mk4) and that was better to drive than my 1.4 so I did pick the wrong engine when I chose that one I think. Apart from a mini 1.0L I only ever had 16v cars with lowish power petrol engines so hard to tell... out of the lot of them the mini and my current tsi were easily the most fun!

I never had any mechanical trouble /breakdowns with the 1.4 ibiza though in 90k miles, just one warranty claim for a leaking radiator and the infamous rear wash pipe popping off!

Ok so I see a 2011 Leon currently with 100k with this 1.2 tsi engine.

Found I think a new winner though.. Skoda Octavia 2011. 1.2 tsi 140,000 miles with one company owner. Thinking this may have had a motorway life with them miles

No one found a higher mileage one then?

Just seen a VW golf 1.2 tsi 2009 with 143,000 miles on autotrader. New winner by what I can find.

Mine just clicked over 70,000 so still a baby then. I have 13 months left on the loan...it would be good to keep it long enough to be car loan free for a while!!! It will probably be about 90k then

Fortunately I came in to money so bought mine outright. Will try and get a new shape one, one day on finance if I can get it. My history got a bit smashed to bits last couple of years

Oh so you had the car since new? Do you use the start stop on yours? Mines a 2011 and had one of the crap chains I think, with any luck I will get to 100k without any drama
