Hi Folks

Landed here from a google search looking to get the truth on the Seat Leon as forums are always where you find out about those annoying rattles before you buy.

I'm looking at the current model 16 plate or waiting for the facelift in the 1.4 eco engine.

What's the good and bad points of the leon? I have to say i've had a good read of the forum and don't see many complaints at all.

I drive a 07 plate civic typeS at the moment and it's a bit tired now but has been so reliable for me.

Thanks KXL, good read and from the sounds of it the rattles were the worst part which reminds me of my old corsa :D

Would members agree that the rattle issues were sorted in later years models?

no. Current 290 has rattled, whereas previous 280 didn't. Eventually traced main source of rattle to rear seats. Still get occasional creaks etc.

I don't have any rattles in mine. I've been really pleased with the build quality so far (considering it has been deliberately designed by the VAG bean counters as a value product compared to Audi and VW) and after 3,900 miles.

What I would say is that some of the plastics are hard and functional lower down. There's no bits of felt here and there (bit miserly of Seat) to lessen the 'built on a budget' feel. The sunglasses compartment under the steering wheel is just solid plastic and your glasses rattle in there, same for the cubbies in the doors, but the car itself is solid.

I've had a 1.4 Leon as a hire car on holiday and that was great too. I'd have another, which is the 'acid test', I suppose.

I have a 66 plate and have a rattle somewhere in the passenger side door, intermittent so I live with it for now, other than that,
the gearbox is tight,
interior is comfortable and pleasant, obviously a step down from a golf but marginally so and I think exterior styling makes up for it.
Speakers are insanely good as standard.
Infotainment is responsive
LED strips on the doors are a nice feature
Engine range is good and as they're straight from VW you can be assured of their quality
Overall I love my car and would recommend to anyone, rattles happen and can be rectified, it's not a big deal to me personally

2015 280 ST zero rattles, creaks or untoward noises.

I've a 2015 280 ST. Zero rattles, creaks or untoward noises. It was a promotional vehicle at an international cycling event supplied by the dealer, so may have been gone over with a fine tooth comb?

I guess you get lucky or you don't. I worked in the BMW Cowley plant, many moons ago, making Minis. Most went out properly, some didn't.

I had a 2014 Leon FR 1.4 (the older 140ps engine). Mechanically the car was very sound indeed but it did rattle like a tin can with a few rocks in it. Main issue was a rattle from somewhere around the passenger door (seems to be a common complaint). Had it at the dealer for this but it came back with the same issue. To be fair, I took the door panels off and soundproofed them myself but it still rattled... so perhaps the sound was misleading.

The "perceived" build quality on the VW products is a lot better with more use of soft touch materials and felt lining. However, I am now in a Golf GTI and it's quieter, yes - but by no means silent. If you have a car with a sports suspension and lower profile tyres, it will always be an extra test on build quality. The extra vibrations that get sent through the chassis are bound to cause some rattles. Might be an argument for getting DCC so at least you can dial back to "comfort" to soften things up.

Just rattles is my only bad feedback, mainly from door cards and the speedo surround

2013 Seat Leon 1.4 140 SE:- Doors originally rattled but a recall sorted that (cards removed and some foam pads placed). Dash does creak and rattle at times especially when car is cold. Had to replace a faulty O2 sensor just before 3 year warranty was up (replaced free under warranty). However there does seem to be an ongoing issue with condensation in rear light clusters, (due to eventual cracks eventually developing in lens.Thinking is that this might be to do with over tightening of lens securing bolt at assembly plant from new). Up to now pleased with car BUT disappointed at rear light cluster condensation especially after 3 year warranty is up. Never had any problems with O2 sensors or Lens condensation on any of my previous cars of any make (even those 12 years or older. Only other thing is that fuel consumption computer figures are way out y (about 4mpg more than you actually get.) Hopefully nothing else around the corner.

I'm very happy with mine! I've had it since March last year and in that time covered 16000 miles with, touch wood no rattles.
The only problems, as like above my rear light has condensation in it and the satnav has thought i was in Wolfsburg a couple of times.

I am very happy with mine. no rattles and so far no problems just coming up to first M.O.T and very happy with build quality and drive fun plus comfy for all the family plan to keep this car for a long time. I have been converted to seat, my daughter is on her second one as well and her only issue has been tire wear.

Not impressed with mine. Issues with :-rear light lens, Engine Emissions faults, petrol flap locking and goodness knows what next. All these just a few months after 3 year warranty ended. Would get rid but can't really afford to.
