I'm looking at bumping up to 245/40/18 tyres on my 66reg Cupra 290 and was wondering if anyone else had tried similar width tyres and what results they had with them.

235 section on an ET50 wheel at 8" wide are OEM and I'd be looking at ET45 offset....so 5 mm further out. Then the tyre is 5mm wider each side from centre and so I am looking at an overall of 10mm further out than OEM, which I think is probably acceptable as my suspension is stock height.

Any advice?

Are they 225/40/18 as standard?

Bearing in mind you're speedo will show you going slower than previously it will affect your mpg readings etc.

Most cars read about 10% more than what your actually doing so hopefully would still be less than that.

As for the wider tyres I think the only issue you might have is when your going full lock? Might rub on the arch. I'm sure it will look pretty meaty though.

Although nobody will probably notice, anything you fit that sticks out further than standard may cause issues, as the Cupra already has the extra plastic fillet things to comply, I believe, with the regs. And don't forget to tell your insurance...

OEM are 19's. Do you have aftermarket 18's? And what are you trying to achieve? 235/35/19 are standard oem fit on Cupra. Are you thinking of santa pod dragstrip? IME fitting Michelin pilot super sports to the front tyres (235/35/19) has transformed the traction. Michelin ps4's are the most recent iteration. Hth

I have OEM 19's with 235/35/19's
A set of OZ Alleggeritas at 17x8's with Hoosiers at 245/45/17's on the front for drag racing. .....don't rub but only for the Dragstrip and no road work.
A set of Oz Ultraleggeras at 17x8's with Michelin Pilot Sport 4's 225/45/17's
A set of Seat wheels with 17's with winter tyres on
A set of 18x8 Team Dynamics 1.2's with the possible 245/40/18's on for some track work.
Probably going to take a punt on some more Michelin Pilot Sport 4's again.

Federal 595 rs-r 235 45 17 (these are wide and similar to 245 or even 250 street tyres) with 17x8 et35 rubbed bad front and rear.

Sent using my fingers, above contents might (will) have traces of bad gramar
