I am looking at a new car and was test driving all the above but why does the s3 feel the fastest

To put it simply...

That’s because it is.

30-40 more BHP as standard and is AWD.

Not sure it is more powerful. It has 310PS as standard I think.

Could the S3 have been remapped? Off the line to 60 or so it'll be quicker than fwd cupra but in gears the cupra normally has the advantage due to less weight than its 4WD cousins.

Could be any number of things..

Were they all the same transmission?

Which varients? i.e Cupra fwd or ST 4drive

You mentioned you were looking at new car but were the cars all brand new (Maybe a map on the engine).

Not much in it (BHP) on paper as you probably know. Torque figures are also the same.

Only thing that I ever noticed was difference between off the line speed and the diff between manual and DSG.

Definitely didn't notice much between the mark 7.5 R and the lastest S3 if at all. Cupra is lighter and especially in DSG feels just as sharp on the move imho.

Saying that my mrs felt the sound on the S3 made it feel faster :)

if you were comparing it launching then of course it will be faster. Side by side at 30mph drag race will be different story.

There are plenty of maps out there for the DQ250 box to give you better performance.

All the cars are DSG and all new from main dealers. The Golf r had 2000 miles and the cupra had 600.The S3 had 4000 miles all are demos,I am wondering is it the way they have been run in.

I don't know about that, but there is a "Audi mod" I previously done to my Skoda Octavia and now did to the Cupra and both felt faster after.
I am about to sleep right now, so this will need to wait for tomorrow, but in the engine config there is some long coding - the car brand can be set to either VW/Skoda/Seat or then to Audi.
It DOES feel different when set to Audi ;)

@paddy6789 Maybe worth doing for next time.

I suspect the Audi mod would just have more effect on the person in the driver seat :roflmao:
Skoda: Polite and civil, courteous to other drivers.
VW: Angry and wanting to race everyone but then sulk when they lose.
Seat: Combination of the two above.
Audi: MUST DRIVE AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO CAR IN FRONT OTHERWISE THE WORLD WILL END!!!

I have not tried it but i have certainly had a lot of Skoda guys making the change on the OBD11 Forum.

@paddy6789 as an OLD Seat driver does this mean i have dementia, I start Angry (because I don't have silly flashing indicators) then forget why and turn into a Polite and civil old man :)

I don't see that one mentioned often in Seat forums ;)
...for me it does change things - kinda like it turns everything up one dial, meaning that eco feels more like sport (harder suspension and steering, sharper throttle) and in Cupra it feels even tighter and faster.

It is one of those "you gotta try it" things and then report back - pretty easy to undo, really ;)
