I’m sad to say that I’m leaving the cupra community as of today. I have to return my 290 Lux (copper) back as my insurance has shot up sky high (£6000). I just want to thank everyone on here for being helpful and answering my queries.

If your insurer didn’t provide an explanation for the increase, I’d be demanding one.

It was £3000 from Admiral, fhey said its due to how many are getting stolen in the area

Also, how soon is your policy up? Put a date in 3 weeks from now, makes a world of difference.

Then call once found the cheapest and say you’ve made a mistake on the date. This time frame has the best results.

If they bump it back up after a date change, then try and not drive for three weeks! Better then loosing a car!

I would definitely give Adrian Flux and Chris Knott a call before you do anything else. I am with AF and my current insurer doesn't cover my new Ibiza as they specialise in imports (my old car was a MK1 Eunos). AF managed to get them to agree to insure the Ibiza for the duration of my current policy (3 months) so that I didn't lose out on anything

Yes it is insane, although @Adam Khan‘s age (19) and having earned at most two years no claims discount will be contributing to an expensive insurance premium. Also, young drivers and performance cars is a combination that most insurers consider as a high risk and not in their preferred / target customer segment, so they may set their prices to discourage attracting or retaining these customers.

Some insurers quote ‘attractive’ premiums to buy in new customers, and then ramp up the price significantly at policy renewal time. That’s could also be a factor with the OP’s renewal price.

@Adam Khan - As others have suggested, it’ll probably be beneficial to go through a broker, some of whom will have specialist scheme arrangements with specific insurers for young drivers and / or performance cars. They’ll do the legwork for you and should be able to find a better price than you’ve been quoted by Admiral. If you’ve not already done so, you might also want to consider opting to take an increased voluntary excess or restricting your estimated annual mileage which should help reduce your premium, although as you’re a young driver, your compulsory excess may already be quite high and you might not want to increase it further.

I've tried all the usual "Club" sponsors over the years and they not very cheap due to the area.

What about renting a lockup to keep in, I got my bike insurance down a lot by purchasing a lockup. Driving something lesser will be hard after the Cupra, hope you get something sorted.

Thats a heck of a Premium for a Car, granted the lads only 19 but bloody heck.
my 2014 184hp TDi FR with protected No claims is only £340 i do live in a very Rural place 45miles from the nearest city.
the fact ive not claimed anything for 10years & iam 48 might have a fair bit to do with it far more so.
but yeessh even in my mid twenties when car ins was nuts it was never above £640 & that was for a GTi Metro of all cars which in there
day were often stolen also. it was a 1.4 16v car.

Getting cheap car ins is the only perk I can think about getting older, 63 (except maybe wiser) My renewal for the 280 is £282.23 this year (Sheilas Wheels, dont laugh they were less than parent Esure) and that is with for life NCD protection.
