Given the comments I have seen about MPG and official figures, I thought I would give it a go at seeing what the car can do on my commute this morning. Not too bad at all. So over a hilly combination of villages, small town, some DC and some B roads the CUPRA managed 42.3 mpg.

Full tank of Top quality Tesco 95 fuel. - I refused to pay the 1.50/l at the Shell on the motorway yesterday...

Roads were nice and clear but music was on and car was cold to start so quite impressed!

Not bad going.
I generally get 28-32 on my 7.5 mile commute through town.

Didn't see any benefit from Eco mode so leave it in comfort, I can get about the same economy in Cupra (gearbox set to D)

I only use Tesco momentum fuel though

I tend to try and stick to decent fuel where I can but I am not convinced it's really much different. I remember watching a TV program on it a few years ago. ECO mode seems to buy me a couple of MPG but only if you make the most of the coasting by keeping off the brakes!

So far, mines been averaging about 34 with mixed driving styles. I am quite gentle for the most part but do like to enjoy what the car has to offer when the roads are good. Trouble is my commute has a superb winding B road!

I get similar mpg on my daily commute usually, around 35 miles each way, in Cupra mode. Mostly motorway though. It's not why you buy a Cupra but you have to give yourself challenges when stuck in slow moving traffic. Getting the mpg up is one challenge, or seeing how many cars you can make a driver weaving in and out of the lanes fall back by. My record is 6.

When I drove my Cupra 300 (400) ST 4drive with 2100miles on the meter on a longer trip, the best I got was 38mpg (7.4l/100km). 90% of the journey was on freeway in legal speed. I'm quite satisfied with that. If I het heavy on the foot, then it's a different story.

Can't knock 38mpg on a 300BHP turbo - These engines are really very good.

Please Please Please stop using supermaket 95ron fuel in the Cupra!!!

Minimum fuel quality should always be 97ron these high compression direct injection engines don't fair well on poor fuel quality it doe smore harm than good even if you driving like Mrs Daisy

Pretty sure the engine is designed to be run on a minimum of 95. Doubt they would design it so it was only good for 97 or above.

manual says something like use 98 or 95 with bit loss of power.
i put tesco 99 just to be sure to have the extra powerrr

If you go look in the fuel flap, there is the large "98" there with a smaller "(95)", which implies they recommend using 98.
On other cars from the group with smaller engines, they have only "95" - this must mean you REALLY should be using 98 on the Cupra.

But hey... when I was in Germany they had 100! ...and I swear I could feel a difference on my Saab 9-3 Aero V6T

comfort mode 4 miles to work 27mpg in ECO its 30mpg.

cruise on the motorway for 50 miles gave 44mpg @ 60-65mph.

generally mid 30s is normal

Interesting to see the difference in MPG from the FWD hatch to the 4drive.

As much as I love how much fun I can have in this car, MPG is important to me given my daily work commute.

In my Cupra ST 4drive I can manage ~37/38mpg on my 16 mile drive to work, short trips or if I push it a little then it's around low 30's.

I find ECO is highly situational, it can help with MPG when used correctly, i.e, letting the car coast when it's appropriate.

It does say on the fuel cap it's to be run on super unleaded 97ron minimum. 95ron if you have no other option.

Your not going to get the best fuel figures (or performance) without using v-power or tesco momentum.

I genarally get 42/44 when I use the car at work to travel to Glasgow and back by sticking to the average speed of traffic, and I have only put in Asdas best 95 fuel bar once and it did not feel any quicker or get better mpg. Did nobody see the Fifth Gear programme when they tested all the different RON fuel, and came to the conclusion that the average driver would never notice the very tiny difference in power on the road. They could hardly notice it on the track, so unless you are tracking/racing it, 95 does fine, and when I drive fast on country roads I dont get left behind because of a lack of power. Also my car is just as quick now as it ever was and has suffered no engine problems in the 5 years I have had it.

I have been watching my mpg since delivery I know its not why you would buy a Cupra, but unless you chaps are minted it IS a consideration at least it is for me.

A few weeks in and just about cover 550 miles on it, ive filled up with Esso Supreme+ as thats all that was available locally then second fill up with Shell v power sadly no Shell clos eto my home, but there is one not far from work.

I have not driven it on the mway yet and used mostly in comfort mode, i did try out Eco strictly to get the better stop start experience, but in my experience ECO didnt seem to give me better mpg, so my journey is a mix of 30-60, stop start traffic mostly b roads to and from work etc.

So MPG so far best Ive seen was 2 days ago 44.2 mpg and most days between 38 upto 41, which made me giggle as in reality my previous car was a 2017 ateca 1.4 which would mostly see low to mid 40s...so in short so far im very happy indeed, yes using the better petrol does add some cost, but in my opinion worth every penny I would never run it on suparmerket petrol and i think standard 95 would have to be a real desperation level! I have always been happy (ish) to use better petrol in performance cars I have owned.

No i know in reality when i start playing with Cupra mode it will move this efigures south somewhat, BUT its good to know it can be very good on fuel in a day to day run or further journies.

And yes i do driver quite carefully, i drive in the speed limit - just because I have a performance car does not give me licence to drive like a bell end, plus im to old, plus i really like having a driving licence!

Picked up my brand new 290 today mystery blue 8 miles on the clock managed 31.1mpg on b roads 25 mile trip would imagine it will get slightly better as I clock up the miles like you say dont buy a cupra for mpg had a 1.4 tsi eco 150 for 3 years longterm was only 39.8 mpg so for something with double the power not to bad.

Fuel economy is knowing that you can stay with a 6.3 litre Holden SS-V while using half the fuel.

On my boring commute this morning I managed 47mpg!! 60/50 and 30 roads, the coasting feature seems to up the mpg a fair bit. Only done 250 miles!
