I've recently bought a Leon FR and noticed it takes quite a while to warm up and will only get to 90 degrees if I'm in traffic. Today it had its first longish run and the temperature rarely got above 70. I know it's pretty cold out there but most of my previous cars have warmed up much quicker then stayed right in the middle of the gauge.
Do these cars run really cool or is it likely something is not quite right with the thermostat ?

My fr warms up fine, straight to 90 and stays there, sounds like your thermostat is stuck open.

My tfsi doesn't go to 90 on a long run either, I've just lived with it for a couple of years now

All fixed now. Very fiddly job but well worth doing. Warms up really quickly now and seems to run much smoother.
This is a long shot on such an old post, but did you find any decent how tos?

Also, do you have the part number handy?

I saw a few vids on youtube for Mk5 Golf GTis, as same engine I imagine it's much the same procedure.
My thermostats need changing, after looking at what's involved it's now booked in at local trusted garage. Arse of a job on these.

Yeah same!

I had a look at some, but didn't fancy tackling that myself.

I managed the cam follower reasonably easily, but it was fiddly in parts.

Definitely recommend doing that if you're not sure when it was last done.

I followed this video, was a major pain though. If you've got the money I'd go to a garage.
Ahh good shout.

I think I saw that one too and eventually thought I'd swerve it.

Got it booked in for the Stat and a few other bits at a local VAG specialist who fitted my ALK.

They had a Bentley Mulsanne last time I went, so I'd imagine that if they get let loose on a car where a single tail light costs more than my Leon (£5k was what they'd been quoted!!!), I should be in safe hands.

Took me a week and multiple new parts that I'd broken during the repair. The plastic gets so brittle, you have to be very careful when working around the coolant pipes. Now I've got other problems, Its endless with this car haha.

That's crazy money... Seems like you're in good hands at the garage, good luck with it!

Worked out well in the end, apart from a bit of moisture on a boost sensor that killed my power for a weekend.

Took it back on the Monday and they sorted it for nowt.
