Hi, I've noticed that after finishing work my car struggles to start (starts every time but takes a few 3-4 seconds). The only thing I can think of is that the car park is sloping uphill slightly, the car starts fine on level ground, and runs fine. Anyone else had this problem? I have been told I may have a fuel leak I but can't see anything. Any advice appreciated thanks.

Well if your tank is half full or less, depending on where the pipe is to draw the diesel..perhaps it has an issue drawing it against gravity. Perhaps try parking the same slope, but facing the other way (if you can do that) and see what happens?

Thanks for the reply, this happens even with a full tank, I have still parked facing the other way today to see if still happens.

I had an issue once where air was being sucked into a fuel line when the car cooled, but no fuel ever leaked out. The car then had to purge the air before it would start, can't remember if the car's incline made any difference.

Cranking speed can also be a factor in slow starting, but you'd need an accurate measure to tell.

Tried parking facing downhill today and it did the same thing, about 4 seconds cranking and then start

I have a 184 TDI and mines the same. Can be a bit rough on Stop/start startup too. Is yours the same?

Not that ive noticed, starts fine in the morning too, just seems to be after sitting outside of work all day I'm baffled

When I had my 2.0TDI, it only took 3-4 secs to start when it was left for over 2 weeks, and in the cold. Else, would start within 1-2 secs. There was a joke in my country that if you are going to steal something and use a getaway car, do not use a diesel, as it takes longer to crank to start.
