There has been a huge rise in catalytic converters being stolen from cars in 2019, police in London say.

For the first six months of 2019, the number of thefts of catalytic converters jumped to 2,894, compared to 1,674 thefts for all of 2018.

and

Although there are 10,000 different types of converters, the cars that are most often targeted are hybrid vehicles.

I heard that around these parts. But it was mostly transit vans as they are easy to slip under without jacking up.

They can have it if they can break into my spare room.

I’ve read about this is one of the car mag’s. I think it was the Toyota Prius, like you say a hybrid, that are a common target.
Cost a fortune to replace so they’re being written off if they’re a few years old.
To be honest if I was in charge a Toyota Prius would be written off if it got a flat tyre! Lol

And just to add to this happy thread I did also read that house burglaries are on the up, I wonder how many of them are related to people breaking into the house to get car keys.

We're lucky, our dog goes beserk if anyone walks near the car or sets foot through the gate. Only yesterday, a couple walked inches from the car & he nearly lept out the window. He seriously protects the car & if he hears it come down the lane, he howls until it's cooled down. Good doggie :)

I know a woman who had her Discovery stolen by thieves who broke into her house to get the keys. Scary stuff especially as she was in the house on her own.

Mine likes to howl also but one tickle and she'd show them where the keys were along with any valuables.
Hence the reason we've never told her the safe combination!

For this reason I leave the keys visible and would let them have them without question. It's just a lump of metal at the end of the day and can be replaced.

Catalyst on a Prius is something mental like nearly 2 grand.

Absolutely loaded with precious metals, probably tells you some about how clean the engine actually is!
