Wondering how the fuel economy is impacted by the upgrade?
So far it seems it really is not affected in the daily commute or when cruising along. The new engine has done 2,700 km now and the first 1,500 km was hardly economical with varying rpm’s, loads etc. and the remaining 1,200 km has been way more “spirited” than they would normally be.
The average consumption is 10,2 l/100 km. That is more or less on par with what I normally achieved before in the long term, without any autobahn driving.
On a 80 km drive yesterday with 99 % being highway with 130-150 km/t on the cruise control it did 9 l/100 km. That actually seems to be better than it was before
I have many work related trips to Germany and the first of them is tomorrow, with 200 km. on autobahn tomorrow evening and again the day after. About half of that stretch is without restrictions and the 160 km. I do before I reach Germany is normally done with 130-160 km/t on the cruise control. I used to see consumption figures between 14 and 18 l/100 km before, mainly depending on traffic and hence how much of the trip is completed above 250 km/t. It will be interesting to see what the figure will be now.
I am still on my winter tires so I am limited to 270 km/t - the top speed run will as a consequence have to wait to next time..
