Hi all,

With the Cupra R in the wild and shortly to be joined with the ST (and these both have beats in the UK), has anybody looked into what's different from the SEAT sound system?
Just wondering if it's only an amp and coding change?

Beats Audio is an alternative option to Standard/Seat Sound in other countries ie Germany. An up to date version of EKTA might show the different part numbers between the systems; however, from my experience of the Canton system in a Skoda, some of the parts are only available from the factory and not via TPS / dealers etc.

That's insane, so if a speaker or the amp fails you can't replace it? Loom fair enough, but hoping that's common to the seat sound system

Seat Sound System and Beats are completely different. SSS uses the amp in the nav unit in the glove compartment. Beats uses a separate amp under the seat. Its connected to the unit in the glove compartment with an optical cable.
Will be a hell of a job to place the Beats amp and to wire it up with the optical cable and the speaker wires.
Based on info on the german Seat forum, these should be the different part numbers:

Center________________5f0035397
Tiefton vorne Standart___5f0035411
Tiefton Beats___________8v0035415A
Tiefton hinten__________5F0035411a
Tiefton hinten Beats_____8v4035411c
Subwoofer SSS_________5f0035382
Subwoofer Beats________6c0035621
Verstärker Beats________5q0035456a

Tiefton = bass
Vorne = front
Hinten = rear
Verstarker = amp

Thank you, guess that's off the cards then!

The beats subwoofer need to have power supply and audio in as there is build in amplifier. Ill guess you can do Sound System retrofit if you not really fancy changing all the bits. In this option you talking about £150 extra

Although it would be a hell of a job, does somebody know anyone that has done it? I have the standard audio in my Leon (8RM) and I want to upgrade it to beats. There is not much information that I can find about it, other then people saying that it's impossible.
But no explaination why it is impossible.
The components are available secondhand, what is the difficulty? Is it in the wiring? or programming?

I do fancy a retrofit (i've already done SSS) but for the kind of money that Beats would require I would definately go for an aftermarket upgrade. Less fuss, better quality.

What kind of money would it require then? I think the amplifier costs around 350 euros on ebay. The speakers I can get for around 100 euro.
I think for every upgrade you will need an amplifier, what I like about the beats is, that I can control it without any external remotes.

For that kind of money (around 500-600 euros) I believe that you can find much better hardware than the Beats. Plus you won't need Beats coding which I'm not so sure that is currently known in the retrofits community.

Beats is not bad I ended up with it when SEAT discontinued the SSS. I would agree that aftermarket set up would be better, I believe pioneer even does a spare wheel sub.
My last car had aftermarket audio with an inline amp and it was much louder than the beats system, and probably better quality too. Beats is much better than normal OE setups though, so I am pleased with it.

If I look at offers from aftermarket sound upgrades from companies in the Netherlands a lot of those companies offer a speaker update, but only available for cars with a built in beats system. So what they do is use the beats amplifier and combine this with other speakers/subwoofer.
I think in a golf MKVII with dynaudio the same amplifier is used (5Q0035456(A)).
But anyway the question was if it is possible at all to retrofit such an amplifier (with speakers). So far I don't know the answer to that question.
