Hello all. A dumb question: I was doing my TDI (110 AHF) a oil change and found some oil inside this hose (see picture). Is this a Pressure Relief Valve? It is normal to have oil inside it? The oil goes trought the air intake tube. Should I be concerned?
Thanks for being here all this time. Leon Motor.jpg

Your engine is different from mine, but I'm pretty sure that's your breather hose. I think it's normal to have a little oil with an older car (normal being 'come to be expected' rather than it should happen) but the more important bit is how much oil.

On mine, I think there's a little residue, but not pools of the stuff.

It could mean the oil is overfilled, or it could point to issues with seals. If there's loads of oil, you might want to check it out.

Hi Ian thanks for your reply. As you said there aren't floods of oil its just a oil residue - a thin layer. I didn't know if oil was supposed to got in there but a breather hose is likely to let it flow a bit.

I'm a lucky one with this girl! ;)

Yep that’s you engine breather, you’ll always find oil vapour/residue in it.
You coul always fit a catch can if your bothered about it but if your not using oil then it’s up to you
