What was your driving style like, @IanH72 ?

Now waiting for @Ricknffc to post he results from yesterday!
Hellooo...

@MrBiggles87

So I filled my tank with Tesco momentum which was priced at £1.32.9 which I thought was very good. Could well be the placebo effect but the car did seem to run smoother with acceleration and I will definitely be using this fuel at every opportunity I can. The price is about 5p a litre cheaper than my local BP for BP ultimate and at 99 Ron it meets the 98 Ron recommended level.

This gave me 445 miles range on the clock and after my up and down journey of 287 miles my range shows 170 range left.

There wasn't as much country road as I imagined my journey was mainly 80% motorway 10% carriageway 10% b roads/ village driving.

The on board computer gave the trip an mpg of 38mpg including 25 mins of stop start road work traffic on the motorway on the return leg.

3 men on board myself included, big coolbox with food in it running on the 12v charger and a boot full of camping chairs, big bottles of water/ bags/ food etc.

Should also had I had the car in individual mode for the entire journey ( set it up to be as eco as possible) apart for about 15 miles of the 287 where I had it in cupra mode in manual enjoying a bit of acceleration out of some corners.

I did two trips on weekend, around 42-45 miles each. Outbound on A roads, but not dual carriageways and some minor B roads, 32.1mpg. On a way back, I chose different route, half of it on dual carriageway and M25 and came back with 32.8mpg. So not a lot of difference. I drive in Individual Mode most of the time, which is setup to hard/fast except engine and gearbox to Comfort.

I was planning to drive in Abarth, but it rained on Friday and I was going to farm camping. When I saw access road to the field, I was glad, that I'm in Formentor,

I had the cruise control set at 73 for most of the motorway stuff apart from a 28 mile stretch of the M1 that has a 60mph speed limit but enjoyed the 50 miles between the M54 and Chester on the A41 where I did enjoy the performance. On the way up my average was 39 until I got off the M54 and the dropped to 36 by the time I got to Chester.

I’ve just got back from another trip from Dartford to Chester and back the following day. It appears that the fuel consumption has got better now I have a couple thousand miles on the clock as I was using all the power accelerating away from round abouts and fast over takes for 100 miles of the journey on the A41, the motorway part I had the cruise control and travel assist set at between 63 - 73 mph depending on speed limits. I filled up when I left and when I got back at the same petrol station using super unleaded.

That’s very healthy and very encouraging. Many thanks.
Does anyone know what’s going on with this new E10 fuel? They’ve battered the radio with adverts about it today, but I hadn’t heard anything about it before then. I’m hoping they’re not watering everything down and in the process neutering our motors.😳

From what I have read E10 will only replace normal unleaded, super unleaded fuel will remain the same. it interesting to see that using E10 fuel will increase fuel consumption. I have always run my car on super unleaded anyway so not worried.

Have just done a road trip Bristol to Snowdonia and reverse, two mountain bikes strapped on the roof. 32.7mpg on the way up and 32.3mpg on the way back (about 4 hours, 200 miles each way) That's a mix of motorway, dual carriageway/roundabouts and twisties in the hills. Would easily be 37mpg+ without the bikes and in time (run in), a Formentor should be better (or at least the same).

Logged over 3000 miles now and have become Increasingly impressed by consumption by my VZ2 310 my long term fuel consumption ( since having the car from new) is 33.4. I have just took a 20 mins drive to Lytham st Anne's. Mainly duel carriageway and got 40.4 mpg it's about a 12-15 mile drive

As per my signature, my average from 3000 miles is 34.5mpg or 8.19l/100km. A lot of motorway driving. But it will probably go down, as I started driving in Cupra mode for most of the time.

Seems to be better than my 2009 Scirocco 2.0 210 TSI. That had average of 32,66mpg or 8.65l/100km over 35K miles. But it's possible, I was driving it harder. Similar amount of motorway driving, but some of it in Europe with higher speeds.

My long term fuel use average is 12.5 l/100km or 22.5 MPG (imperial) over 2000 miles. Most of my trips are in the city, with lot of stop and go traffic. My average speed over that time was just 34 km/h.

On a longer trip on the highway I achieved 8-9 l/100km but city driving and heavy foot makes my fuel usage bad.

I didn't buy the car to worry about fuel usage though.

I imagine when mine arrives, I will be filling up regularly like when I had my old EK9 Type-R... Pretty much filling up weekly and only commuting to work

I wouldn't assume the in-dash fuel consumption readout is accurate until I've done own calculation by brimming the tank, doing a run, re-brimming the tank to the same cut-off point, and dividing the miles covered by the fuel put in on the scond fill. Every car I've ever had with an in-dash trip computer was about 10% optimistic in its mpg readout.

Weekly? That's not often. I had to fill up Scirocco every 2.5 day when commuting from London to Southampton ;-)

All my reads are from full to full tank, don't trust computers in car and my first few cars didn't have computers to show me that data anyway.

It does feel often when my commute was only a 12 mile round trip per day haha.

Yeah same, I always do full to full and reset the odometer, then calculate the mileage against the data from the receipt and car.

The mpg calcs are now very accurate in modem vw group cars. My Golf r7. 5 always matched the brim to brim calculations as does the Formentor, I now don't bother double checking anymore 🤗

That’s good to know: I’ve only just done my first brim so have to wait for the second to check if mine is as accurate as yours.

I don't agree with it, computer seems to be more optimistic by 1-2mpg. Last few tanks in Formentor:

tank - computer read:
31mpg - 32.8mpg
37.6 - 38.5
38.3 - 39.1
35.9 - 37.3
34.4 - 34.1
31.1 - 31.5

Also, computer can't calculate how much you topped up. Computer will show mpg from last fuelling, regardless if tank is full or half.

How are you manually calculating it - Brim the tank until first click, check mileage, then check again when it flags the fuel low warning?

This is my method:

Brim to first click; record mileage
Drive car until I decide I want to fill up
Brim to first click at same pump as previously; record mileage
Deduct first mileage recording from second, dive result by fuel put in at second fill.
