Was going to change the glow plugs on my Leon ST 1.6tdi 2014. According to OBD the one in cylinder 1 is duff, but thought might as well replace them all. As far as I'm aware they are all still the original ones.
Question is, looking at where the leads attach, is there a "proper" way to remove the leads from the plug, or should they just pull off? Tried to gently pull them off but didn't seem to move. Just thought I'd ask before pulling on them too hard.

Having recently had my glow plugs replaced on my 2014 2.0 TDi, please be very careful trying to remove them. I damaged one, gave up, got the garage to do it and it still cost me £550 (they damaged another one).

The glowplugs are very hard to remove, much harder than my old Peugeot 306.

Just be aware what you are letting yourself in for.

Ref removing the leads, there is a You Tube video where they use some sort of tool to help pop the leads off.

I would suggest viewing this video, I changed the glow plugs on a 2012 1.6 tdi Golf and didn't have too much trouble.

I did the glowplugs on my 1.6 and they came out very easily

I used a pair of angled long nose pliers to get hold of the cap and a short sharp pull removed them just fine
Thanks for the feedback, Used a pair of long angled pliers as you suggested and they did come off easily. As they've been in there for some time 8yrs 165k miles, I've put some WD40 round them will do the same in a cpl of days time and then have a go the end of the week.
Can I ask did you replace all 4? I've seen a video recommending not to replace number 3 unless it needs it as it's saying it is special pressure plug.

yes replaced all 4

Not all engines have the special plug and mine didnt so the cost was about £65 all in

you can easily tell as plug 3 would be different to the others

Thanks all for the advice
All three came out really easy apart from No2. As it was only saying that No.1 needed replacing, rather than risk snapping it, I've put some more WD40 round it and will leave it another week to soak in. All four plugs were the same, no pressure sensor.

Just another quick question
When you drop a socket down the engine bay, why does it never land where you can get to the bleeding thing without undoing the bottom covers?

Thanks all for the advice

Take the car for a really good drive and get it nice and hot and try again

Just don't burn yourself
