just order my new Formentor, I added the Beats sound option.
my reason for this quality of listening music.
so the question I have is does it take up boot space, I think it just sits inside the spare tier.
also what's the quality like compared to the standard

It doesn’t take any boot space as the subwoofer is integrated into the spare wheel which already has it’s location underneath the boot liner.

As for sound quality, I’m not too sure to be honest, none of the demo cars at my location had any with the option but I still ordered it haha. I’m not expecting B&O/Harmon Kardon sound quality but it has to be better than the standard speakers!

A couple of Formentor owners state the Beats system is not much better than the standard system. I have standard system in mine and it’s as good or better than the B&O in the Audi I had.

I've come from a BMW Harman Kardon system. The standard system in the Formentor isn't up to that level (my old car had 12 speakers for a start). I found the preset equaliser settings didn't quite hit the mark but after adjusting the custom equaliser setting it now sounds good enough.

Bit of a thread bump. I really like my audio and my current car has a B&O system which at best is ok, the best audio system I have had was a standard setup in a Volvo it was really incredible another good system was a BMW ‘advanced’ system.

For the guys who have ticked the beats box is it any good for a relatively cheap option?

obviously its personal choice but if you spend a lot of time in the car and you really like your music then surely you must tick the option.
I don't do many miles at all and the main driver, the wife, is tone deaf lol
My last car, an evoque, had the meridian sound and was impressive when wound up. My Formentor has std sound and I have no complaints there either.

I do spend a lot of time in the car and love my music so I always tick the premium sound option on new cars. To be fair i didnt try the standard Formentor audio option. Last car was evoque with Medion (Meridian?) and Formentor with Beats is much much better. Harman kardon in previous BMW and Mini varied between models but was very good, I'd say Beats is marginally better but my memory might be playing tricks on me.
I'm really impressed with Beats in the Formentor.
Of course sound quality is very subjective, this is my personal opinion and experience

I have never needed to turn any cars volume i have ever owned up to the max 🤷🏻‍♂️

The only ones that were ever lacking were in the likes of old citroen berlingo works vans as they only had 2 in the front. Other than that is max volume really required 🧐

Each to his own I think!

Brilliant thanks for the responses, for the price of the option I think it’s a no brainer.

Just need to try and decide on a colour 😂

Beats is better than the standard system, will not blow you away, not a high end option not that powerfull (never mind that 300 watt!) at all but just right, having the sub makes some difference although only been supportive due to its limited size and power. At first you may not notice any difference but once you do some playing around with the equalizer settings and listening options and you adjust the sub, bass, treble etc to your liking you will notice a difference.. The sub does not work with all listening options, keep that in mind.

It might be worth checking whether or not opting for the Beats audio upgrade would have any impact on build / lead times - with VW’s Golf, specifying the Harman Kardon audio upgrade seems to be having quite a significant impact, and customers who’ve ordered the HK upgrade are experiencing excessively long wait times for their cars to be built and delivered.

I was speaking to one of the salespeople at my local VW dealership last week when my car was being serviced, and we got on to the subject of build / lead times. They told me that semiconductor supply issues was the reason for HK being unable to supply VW with the upgraded audio units (presumably they’re unable to secure sufficient semiconductor supplies). I’m aware that there are people over on vwroc.com forum who’ve spec’d the HK audio upgrade on their Golf R‘s and based on the latest estimated (unconfirmed) build dates, some of those people will have been waiting 20 months or longer from time of ordering by the time they get their cars - assuming those estimated build dates don’t get pushed back further.

Although the semiconductor supply issue in general does seem to have improved, if Beats have similar issues to Harman Kardon, then it could have an impact on lead times.

VW have temporarily removed the HK audio option from the Golf.

A good point well made

If you were into your audio, you would get your own system installed aftermarket.

Night n day between a custom system and a BO/HK system. ( the speakers won’t even be made by them…probs just a mini amp branded by BO/HK with generic speakers. )

You're not wrong but one would hope that BO/HK "engineer" the systems so that the product is a worthy representation of their brand.

I believe its quite difficult to implement an aftermarket audio system to todays cars that all have screens and all their systems are interactive through the factory installed audio/visual system, especially on a Formentor where almost all car functions are operated through the touch screen. Only thing I can think of is upgrading the speakers but still the difference would not be worth the hassle and money. A safer approach is to better the sound insulation on the doors, that will provide better acoustics and improve road noise coming through the cabin.

Newbie question: how do I get into the Beats settings? (I'm still floundering through the infotainment on my new 310 VZ2 and the manual barely mentions Beats).
