Airbag light on

A few weeks ago, my airbag light came on. When I got it checked at the garage it came up as the drivers seat airbag, with the code saying the resistance was too high or something of the sort. The mechanic unplugged and replugged it back. After clearing the codes it went away untill the next drive about 10 mins in. I went recently and asked to see if he could try it with contact cleaner but to no avail. What else should I check/ do that can solve this?

In my case airbag was in terrible condition. So I ve swapped it from different Cupra R seat.

Check the flat cable inside the steering wheel. It could break and throw a error and a warning light. I can check the part number.

Usually caused when water (from door seal leaks) gets into the connectors. I would try cleaning with 99% IPA (amazon) and a toothbrush.

Thanks. I’m not sure that’s the case as the first time I cleaned the connector as I said, it did go away so seems to be a signal/ connection issue(?) is that part easy to replace if need be?

Afaik I haven’t got any door leaks. Wouldn’t electric contact cleaner be as good as 99% ipa anyway? In my case what can be relatatively easily replaced if I need to replace the connector etc?

Yes, it's pretty easy to change but you have to disconnect the battery and requires a 12 spline bit (think is a M10) to take off the steering wheel center bolt.

contact cleaner is good but think of 99% IPA of a stronger version of it..

Nice one. I was recommended to take to someone that specialises in electrics first to do a proper diagnosis but I may get that next time I go to the garage and prob try that instead. Do you know if that connector can easily be replaced?

I have no clue on the connector as ive never looked at it

Thanks. For the interim I got some resistors just to clear the code. Will get them installed at the garage next time I’m there
