Hi everyone

Got a tech pack 2014. How can I get android auto onto the unit? I've seen a few different things about on the internet. Not looking to spend alot but still want something good.

Thanks!

Thanks, I saw these boxes you can plug in for like £100 and then keep car pushed on the unit and it pops up android auto

I did this with my tech pack 2014 to get android auto (MIB1 to MIB2 conversion) but it was a quite a faff to be honest and considerably more than £100 even with the DIY route like mine (MIB2 unit - glovebox head unit and screen - alone were £290 used from eBay). Then I had also needed OBDeleven and CarScannerPro apps to do various coding hacks.. probably spent about £370 all in.

Here's my conversion thread:

Doesn't look like the neatest of options (additional unit and cable bundle loose in glovebox) and seems to have problems with the sound (aux issues) but it might be about half the cost of a MIB2 install so there's that! Good luck!

I've got one of the boxes, it works alright, but the screen size and responsiveness is limiting. Tbh it's a bit of a gimmick as most phone screens are as big nowerdays.

Mostly got it as a mib2 retrofit would be a chunk of what the car is worth and wanted to try it out.

Fitted quite a few of these in the past few years on a wide range of vehicles, including MQB cars, always had the same problems like music audio quality issues over wireless, issues with audio/mic on phonecalls, slow operation, missed connection on start up, looks janky on the screen.... The list goes on...

Safe to say apart from very niche cars like Audi A6 C6, I don't fit them anymore if there is a viable OEM option. Especially with how cheap the OEM option is these days.

Sounds like the best option for the original poster is to spend a bit more and install a used MIB2 unit (from a donor vehicle as close to the original one as possible to minimise the required coding/parameterisation).
