Evening all, first post on the forums.

picked up my new (to me) approved used Leon this week. Happy with the car, however, something’s up which I can’t quite settle with:

The car is due its annual oil change & inspection in 50 days.

You may be aware that Cupra require at least 6 months before services on all approved used. I’ve raised this with the dealership, who have told me that an engine oil change was done pre-delivery and would be willing to reset the MMI for me if I dropped the car back, as they say it was done as part of the DSG service (I’m not sure why they’d touch engine oil as part of a gearbox service though?)

For that reason, I’m not particularly convinced by their response.

On the pre-delivery service sheet they only list the DSG service as being done, there is no mention of an engine oil change, and the “next service due” date at the top of the job sheet reflects what’s given in the MMI (I.e. end of October)

As far as I’m aware, the DSG and engine don’t share oil, so surely it should have been a separate line item on the service document if it had been carried out? I think it’s just the DSG that’s had the oil change and they’re trying to pull a fast one with the current engine oil.

anyone have any thoughts? I’m not sure what I can do, really, bar pulling the dipstick and having a look at the oil (previous recorded oil service was done 12k miles ago so should show signs of age, hopefully if it hasn’t been changed). Thanks in advance.
 
As James suggests, the engine and DSG oil changes are completely separate.

Typically, engine at 1 Yr/ 10k miles and DSG at 80k miles.

I would put money on just the DSG service having been done.

Checking the colour of the oil - and the oil level on the dipstick - would have been one of the first things I did after taking delivery of the car, irrespective of whether or not the dealer maintained they’d changed the engine oil. I do this now after every service, following doubts a couple of years ago over whether the engine oil in the VW I owned at the time was actually changed when the car was serviced ?.

I did an audit on what had been done at 5 year servicing and compared with the service manuals. I did fault the garage on one. Either the DSG or the 4 wheel drive on the Ateca. One was missed out. 380 gear box. Think it was the axle without looking at my folder.

So yes, good to do an audit. The same time I did the preventive maintenance on the battery had it changed at 5 years, one year over the life duration. I had the dealer checking their records with a shopping list. They were happy.

Preventive maintenance that old inventory control one you get taught ?. Was light tube replacement v replacing as they break... probably a production line being shut down for a one off maintenance or a supermarket ?. Batteries the hassle of being stuck on a cold night. Honest John use to say spin them out... now I read on the good board here it isnt DIY ?. He probably didnt know that.

I've never known any dealer, main franchise or indie, not to offer anything less than six months until the next service falls due.

If your Leon hasn't done in the region of 80k miles (as mentioned above) then why was a DSG service done? Questions need to be asked.

It would be helpful if @Cupraleonuser could tell us the age and mileage of the car.

I know when VW started fitting the DQ381 DSG 7 speed transmission in the Golf R and GTI, some owners still stuck with the 40k service intervals of the older DQ250 6 speed DSG, especially those enthusiast owners who tended to over-service their cars.

So the reason for the DSG service in @Cupraleonuser ’s car could be something as simple as the above, but without more information we’re just guessing / speculating.
