Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble tracking down a rattle in my Cupra Leon facelift. The rattle comes from the rear right side. It happens mainly when the temperature is high (car parked in the sun / hot weather). It sometimes disappears after driving for a bit.

What I’ve checked so far:
  • Removed trim panels and test-drove with them off.
  • Inspected wire clips.
  • Drove with rear window open and rear seat folded.
  • Checked door locks and latches.
  • Adjusted trunk rubber stoppers.
  • Exhaust shield is fine.
  • Dealer also inspected but couldn’t identify the cause.
Here’s a short clip so you can hear it: link on Reddit

Has anyone experienced something similar? Any tips on what else to check would be great.

Have you checked all the door rubbers are clean and free of any wax as well as the paintwork around the door sill and frame? I had this on a Peugeot 2008 and dealer could not find either. I traced it to a dirty door seal. It was a common fault on the original E87 BMW 1 Series, which is where I learnt it from.

On the right side, somewhere at the back, I know it very well and it drives me crazy. So it's a Seat Leon station wagon, but the interior is basically the same. I tried to remove the fifth door trim and tape over some questionable areas with fabric tape, but without success. I'm going for an oil change next week, so they should take a look at it, but I don't have much faith in that. Plus, I'm worried they'll do more harm than good. I tried looking for it by getting in the trunk while my wife drove around, and guess what? It didn't make a sound even once, nothing! I think I'll just throw a few bags of sand in the trunk and that'll solve the problem 😉

For me it's sounds a bit that it is the suspension. It vibrates too much.

With my car I know the heathliner near the b-pillar makes noise. That is only ar bumps not like your video

It can sound just like that, for the time it takes to clean will tick another possibility off the list. In my Pug it sound like the centre console but was the drivers side door, wax or silicone on the seals or door frame.

I had a rattle that was there most of the time, probs not same as yours but might be worth trying. Put some tape around the rear boot catch, the metal part fixed to the hatch, not the locking mechanism. Cured my rattle.
