I've got a flooded rear drivers footwell on my mk1 leon. I replaced the front door seals with butyl tape once to fix flooded front footwells but that was a long time ago and I'd like to follow a guide for the rears if possible to minimise potential f ups but all the links I've found are dead. Can anyone post a guide/link to a guide here? If not has anyone got tips for replacing the rears?

So I seem to have opened a can of worms with this one.

Loads of water in the rear drivers side footwell, all others dry. Around the bottom of the rear drivers door seal was bone dry, when i had the front footwells full of water you could see where the water was coming from as the door seals were wet. I took the rear drivers side door card off and the inner seal has already been replaced with butyl stripping, looks to be done well. Everything to do with the door is bone dry. The water seems to trace back to the boot.

After removing a bunch of boot trim the water seems to be coming from the rear quarter of the car somewhere.

I labelled some photos:

The bit labelled full was full to the brim with water, possibly making its way forward and filling up the footwell (?) There was a trail of water that ran along the side of the rear seat that seems to support this. There was also wetness running into the spare wheel well and out the drain hole at the bottom.

On the offside, the bit that was full on the nearside was bone dry, but there was still wetness leading down into the wheel well like the other side. The boot carpet was damp so maybe that water was wicking down this side and there is only one leak on the drivers side.

It seems there is one leak that is filling up that full bit by the rear drivers side arch and that is overflowing and making its way to the footwell and everywhere else. From what I've read there are a few typical leak spots:

Seals in doors: These look okay at the rear, I have butyl tape so i might reseal them anyway just to be sure. But i dont think this is the leak.

Rear lights: There's no moisture in the lights and no traces of moisture underneath the lights in the boot area so I don't think it's these.

Panel under scuttle: I couldn't get a look at this today as the wiper arms are seized on but it seems unlikely as the front half of the car is bone dry and the rear half is all flooded.

Plastic vent thingy in picture: This seems probable to me as it's right above the flooding area and could cause all the other wet areas with enough leakage. I've read that i need to have the bumper off and silicone around it to solve this.

Boot seal: I read about someone having similar flooding to me and they went all around the boot seal and hinges to try and diagnose the leak but didnt seem to find a solution. Wouldnt know where to start with this.

I'm not sure where to go from here, I might just have to start sealing all possible leak points and keep my fingers crossed. I'm hoping someone with more knowledge can look at this post and point me in the right direction.

Using seam sealer on the boot welds worked for me. Pull off the two plastic covers where the boot hinges are and seal the cracks you can see in the welds.
