Hi guys,

First ever Seat and love it but it I’ve got a problem already.
I purchased a Seat Leon FR Sport back in May. This is a 74 plate reg. Since having the car, I’ve noticed, now 6 or 7 times, that the engine cuts out while driving at low speeds when approaching, or pulling away from roundabouts and junctions. It isn’t a typical stall as the car already tends to be slowly moving. The dash eventually then tells me to ‘manually restart the engine’. To start with, thought it was me!

I’ve had it back at my local dealership. The car was looked over and the computer checked for errors. No fault codes were found. They also said the Seat technicians were unable to replicate the fault. I was told that they had seen similar issues before with the cars but no obvious fault was found. Has anyone heard of this?

Last week, the car stalled at low speed as I was going round a mini-roundabout. The car didn’t need to come to a complete stop at the junction. I lost all power and it took me two attempts to get the car restarted. This was dangerous and I was limping around the mini roundabout with traffic coming. I had to pull over as soon as I could to get the car restarted.

After the visit to the dealership, I am at a loss because they can’t carry out a repair as no fault is being shown but there clearly is a problem here.

I’ve been manually disabling the start/stop assist at the start of every journey to see if this helps. However, today, the start/stop was disabled and the engine cut out again after I had switched from second to first gear. I was promoted with the same message: ‘manually restart engine’. This was while approaching traffic lights which were red.

Has anyone heard of this?

Thanks in advance! ?
I'm having very similar problems. I purchased my first (and I promise my last) SEAT care on PCP. It is SEAT Lean FR, 25 plate, got it in May 2025. Since then I have have innumerable, intermittent faults where my engine will cut out. This can happen any time of day or night, irrespective of weather, incline or other road conditions. I cannot replicate the fault.

These happen when driving, typically at lower speeds, but with the car under power, where the engine cuts out, demanding a manual restart. This has resulted in me being rear ended once.

I refuse to put my children in the car, but my wife has driven the vehicle and similar episodes have occurred with her, with the engine cutting out.

I have take the car to the dealership three times, the first two times they haven't found a fault and, now. the third time I've left it with the dealership and refuse to take it back, as they cannot locate the fault.

We have not experienced any similar episodes in any previously owned cars - two Hyundai Tucson's, Hyundai i20 and i30, Dachia Duster, SEAT Ibiza or KIA courtesy vehicle.

I also had a separate issue (which prompted taking it in) where the front sensor detected a collision alert and initiated an emergency break. The road ahead was empty. Thankfully no accident caused, and other than some mild whiplash no injuries sustained.

The dealership, Listers Worcester, now wish for me to undertake a drive with one of their mechanics as they cannot replicate the fault. I have told them repeatedly the issue is intermittent and I cannot replicate it, but I feel they are trying to pin the issue on "how I drive". They have said they can buy the vehicle back, which would leave me massively out of pocket, and I feel that they would then sell this car to some other unsuspecting person, putting them and other road users at risk.

If anyone can help, if anyone has found out what is causing their issue, or any advice and guidance on the next step to resolve this dispute with the dealer taking their defective car back would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to go through legal hassle or Ombudsman but I feel this may be my only option.

Should anyone find a successful cure for this issue then please update this thread with the solution so it helps others in the same situation.
Hi there, so sorry you're going through this too, we went through it for 5/6 months last year before finally rejecting our vehicle as we deemed it unsafe for a family car! (Seat leon 25 plate 1.5 TSI manusl FR black edition).
Perrys Aylesbury technicians may be able to help with advise on this fault. (They are no longer a dealer unfortunately but will hopefully be able to offer advise). They ended up driving our car around for until it cut out on them, as no fault ever showed up but once it happened (multiple times) to them then they knew there was definitely a failt somewhere. They spent a lot of time working on our car and believe they found a fix once we had rejected it. They said it was a faulty Cam shaft sensor. We had exactly the same issues as you but fortunately, although we had a fair few near misses we were not actually rear ended.
Hope you manage to get your car sorted!

Thank you for getting back to me, I really appreciate it.

When you rejected your vehicle how did you go about it, the dealer seems to not want to accept there is a fault. Did you own the vehicle for a while before hand?

Appreciate the help.

Hi, We had owned it for just over a month when we first experienced the fault. We were told the same, to just keep driving and document it every time it cut out. After a few weeks of it cuttiing out a number of times, we ended up taking it back and leaving it with Perrys, who were actually lovely and agreed to drive it themselves to experience the fault. We were fortunate to know the (lovely) staff as we previously bought a seat with them. I would recommend asking the garage you boughtbit from to keep the car and drive it so they can experience the fault themselves. As it's an intermittent fault that was the only away yo solve it for us as the staff had to drive it 100bmiles or so before it cut out for them. I really wish you luck and hope you get it sorted.
Once they experienced the fault and they couldn't find a fix they agreed to let us reject the car and get a new one of same spac etc. It was only when they had time to look at the old one they found the fix but I know they spend a long time working out what was wrong.

Would suggest mounting a dash cam inside the car facing the driver and dash etc. Then if you have video evidence you could take them to court if needed
