The 1.8 is an EA888 (with a shorter crank) - so I would expect faults to be similar. Thanks for post... it's the 2.0 EA888 (2018) though, not the 1.8.
Ok .... I DO have an OBD scanner and was lurking in my garage. I forgot I bought one years ago and used on my old mk2 Cupra.
Codes as follows ...
1. P0131 02 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 1
2. P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
3. P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
4. P0300 Random / Multple Cylinder Misfire Detected
For P0131 I get:
View attachment 53811
For a P0303 I get:
View attachment 53810
For a P0304 I get:
View attachment 53812
For a P0300 I get:
View attachment 53813
Hopefully it is sensor related - but the noise did sound rather metallic so could also be a mechanical fault?
Yes you can tune these motors well but each engine is different and it only takes a small issue that is missed to cause problems.
I had injector failure and was very lucky car went into limp mode and i was able to park the car up. Garage told me that I was lucky no damage to the bore but it could have caused a very expensive bill had i carried on driving.
anyway fingers crossed its not major and easy to fix.
Im hoping its only the cam magnets![]()
Unbelievable, feel for you mate. Did the mechanic say what could have been the cause?
I'm sure there was someone else on here with a cupra who had an engine failure, wonder what's weak on the engine for this to happen.
Oh no, that sucks. He said until he strips it, he won't be able to know. I asked him how this could have happened to such a well looked after car with a supposedly resilient engine from VAG and he said it was just really bad luck; he said out of thousands there is always just one that is waiting to detonate and I was just very unlucky that it happens to be me on this occasion.
Oh no, that sucks.
Has it ever had a rattle on cold start?
The EA888 can have timing tensioner issues - which could result in the chain going slack and jumping a tooth with obviously bad outcome!
