It looks like the Raval has become a victim of its own popularity with orders coming in at twice the volume expected. This has caused shortages of components, and there have also been delays due to necessary software updates

I pre-ordered my Launch Edition at the end of May. My dealer contacted me on 10 August to say the car was status 30 - waiting to leave the factory, so possible delivery around mid-September. Last week they called me to say it probably won't be delivered until October, maybe November. They did try to get me to consider a VZ Extreme (at higher cost) but I'm OK with waiting for the car I ordered.

Having checked online I am seeing multiple reports of similar delays, possibly into December, so I guess we need to re-set our expectations. If you have an order already, you may want to check with your dealer.

It does appear that Cupra are extending their "early-order" offers on free paint upgrades to match the delays.

It is not just a Cupra issue European cars are being given build priority as our market is very volatile - EVs still being a harder sell mainly affordability and residual values but also ZEV mandate.

European orders have been double what was expected. I have just had the same with an Abarth was Sept now Dec as Stellantis deprotises UK orders. So cancelled and got a in stock Raval V1. I take delivery within the next two weeks.

This mornings posts prompted me to check with my dealer and they say my car is in transit so it should arrive later this month.
My dealer said he was hopeful this month but more likely next month, as they hadn't been loaded on a boat yet.
I would imagine they will all be on the same roll on roll off ship

I'm insured with Admiral and they are currently NOT providing a quote for the Raval (other companies may be OK).

I've done some digging and found this (via Google), so it may just be a temporary issue:

Why Admiral's System May Still Block It

Even after a car officially goes on sale, automated insurance systems take time to sync. The primary reasons you cannot get an automated quote right now include:

  • Delayed ABI/Thatcham Group Integration: While Parkers has indexed the Raval under Groups 20 to 22, the official automated data feeds provided by Thatcham Research (which Admiral uses to auto-populate risk) can take several weeks post-launch to fully integrate into insurer underwriting systems.
  • Lack of Live Registration Data: Because customer physical handovers are just beginning this month, the automated DVLA lookup systems linked to insurance portals may not yet recognize specific Raval number plates or exact vehicle specification codes.
  • Underwriter Back-End Delays: If a vehicle profile is completely new, major insurers often disable online auto-quoting for the first few weeks to prevent algorithm errors, requiring a manual underwriter sign-off.
How to Get Around It

If you want a quote from Admiral today, you will likely need to bypass their automated online form. You can try:
  1. Calling Admiral Directly: Speak to a phone representative. They can manually search for the vehicle code using the exact engine power (e.g., the 52 kWh 210PS variant) or refer it to their underwriters.
  2. Checking the Manufacturer Policy: CUPRA Car Insurance (underwritten by Liverpool Victoria / LV) is fully live and guaranteed to have the vehicle mapped, which can give you a baseline price to compare against Admiral once their system updates.

@alanjs; as @Pmac16 has said above, it can take a while with new models for systems to be updated.

I dare say with LV= being the insurer for the official Cupra Insurance scheme, Cupra will have exerted a fair degree of pressure on LV= to ensure their systems have been updated in good time to recognise the Raval prior to the commencement of deliveries of cars to customers, so quotes can be given and documentation issued. Cupra are also likely to have an income stream from LV= for the sale of Cupra branded insurance by way of sales commission, so they’ll want to ensure they don’t loose out on that revenue stream.

As you’ve established, in the short term Admiral - and other insurers - should be able to handle enquiries for the Raval manually via their call centres until systems have been updated. Be aware that most car insurance quotes are only valid for 30 days prior to the required start date of cover, so any premium quote obtained more than 30 days in advance might not be representative of the actual premium you’ll be charged.

5 months use to be the rule of thumb on delivery of new cars from order so that feels about right. Ofcourse its faster if the dealer cuts into a car already identified for someone and grabs it for their customer. That happened to me once on an Altea where the Seat business went out of business, handed by Seat UK to another dealer which I believe my build got given to another customer of theirs, surprise, surprise. When mine did arrive three months later, no rear parking sensors which I'd ordered. Bees knees in those days. Had to be post fitted at their expense.

I ordered a VZ extreme 3 weeks ago and was given a provisional early December by the dealer, when would I expect to get an indication from Cupra of a manufacturing date?
I'm not in a rush just curious as i've never ordered new before!

I'm with Admiral too and hoping to add onto my existing policy. It will be a way off though and hoping they are competitive as my 20 odd years ncb will be staying on my current car🤞

Well if it hasn't changed in the last 10 years since I ordered new it goes like this:

1. Not all dealers are dab hands with Seat / Cupra order system. That allows them to go into the system and find its status. Thus you see the codes on the thread.

2. If they arent dab hands with the system or won't tell you, you get from the dealer the order reference number. That's the one they would use themselves. Then you politely phone up customer services at Cupra and ask for the status, they put you on hold, then take you off hold and tell you. You cant do that too many times.

It may have all changed now. I'll be corrected if it has.

The train spotter people know the maritime shipping codes and monitor the boats . They know the boat route and boat its likely to be on when they know it's got to the port.

In the UK they get inspected at the port then control is past to the dealer. They then tell the transporter people to pick up the car and bring it to them. If they haven't got space in the dealership they may delay. If its one of these ummm... intermediate arrangements, forgotten the name, it goes to them and then out to the dealer. Lease... got the word.

Indeed this may be the new way of doing it. There were moans historically why can't it be like VW etc. Those last two phase, in the UK where you give the dealer a kick. This was explained to me by customer services at the time. Dealer or the lease company has to arrange to get the car picked up. I was in Japan last time and phoned the dealer to get it from them on the day I wanted when I got back 😂. Was in the port ready for collection.

Yes I've had the order placed email, do you not get a planned production week or is out of the blue when you get the in build email?

If the system for the factory scheduling orders to a specific build week is the same as the VW system, then once the order has been accepted by the factory, the necessary parts / components for the car to be built will be ordered from Cupra’s suppliers who make those parts / components. Most (all?) major vehicles manufacturers use the JIT (just in time) business model - i.e. they don’t hold large stocks of parts as this would tie up capital than can be used elsewhere in the business. Instead, parts are ordered as required.

The more highly spec’d a car is the greater the number of parts that are needed for the build, so the more complex the supply chain which might increase the risk of build delays. The factory won’t schedule a vehicle order to a specific build week until all suppliers in the supply chain have confirmed a) they can supply the necessary parts / components and b) when they can supply them.

Once the factory have had confirmation as above from their suppliers, they should be able to schedule the vehicle for build and allocate it to a specific build week. It is not until then that the customer will be advised of the confirmed build week.

Was just the email for me, albeit I am getting updates from Cupra and my dealer, was the dealer that emailed and said it was at the port waiting on a ship.

Same here. The only e-mail I got direct from Cupra was confirmation of the order. All the later updates have come from the dealer either by phone or e-mail.
I really miss the VW online order tracker capability.

Ah so they still don't have that VW tracker then. What that email is doing is going through the status codes and putting them in text. It's where you have a reluctant dealer to tell you anything you get the official Seat / Cupra code and can phone customer services but then there isn't much you an do except when it lands in port and is waiting for pickup. That one as I said is sanctioned by the dealer, the rest is out of their control. I converted my music 🎶 library to flac in that 5 month period to play in the car . Big library.
